Coming Home: Part 2
Tumblr media
Hm...Well, that’s great...
Komaru: What’s wrong?
Tumblr media
I’ve been down here for 2 minutes and I’ve already found a dead body...
Komaru: What!?
Tumblr media
Look.
*Everyone peers through Akeru’s earpiece. She stands in front of a gravestone shaped like a dog. The name on the dog reads “Lara.”
Kyoko: Looks like Yodogawa buried his dog here...I didn’t expect he’d be a pet person...
Kuripa: He kept a dog down there? No wonder it died.
Tumblr media
...
*Everyone goes quiet.
Kuripa: What!?
Maya: That’s pretty sick man.
Kuripa: I’m just saying! Would YOU keep a dog trapped down here!? You’d suffocate it before long!
Tumblr media
Zen.
Tumblr media
Wah-!? Ugh! Stop doing that!
*The hologram appears once again in front of the grave and starts to stroll around the garden.
Tumblr media
I just thought you would like to kn-know, the front-ont door is l-l-locked. It r-requires some time for activation.
Tumblr media
Ok...well...Activate it.
Tumblr media
Of course. What is the code?
Tumblr media
Uuuuuh...
Aoi: Damn! Of course NOW we have passcode protection.
Tumblr media
Uh...didn’t you say I had dementia? How am I supposed to remember the code?
Tumblr media
If I recall correctly, you said you it was the code on the wristband.
Tumblr media
Wristband?
Tumblr media
My wristband? If you’d like a reminder, I believe you left it over at the gazebo.
Tumblr media
Oh...ok... Gazebo it is.
*Akeru and the hologram go over to the gazebo.
Tumblr media
Also, I just thought I’d t-tell you; I’ve reconstructed some-GRRGCK-past exp-experiments you might like to revisit. I hope they-they-they-KKCH!-enhance your experience.
Tumblr media
Are you good bro?
Byakuya: He’s bugging out. What’s going on? And what does he mean “past experiments?”
Tumblr media
Show me one of these past experiment reconstructions or whatever.
Tumblr media
C-Certainly.
Tumblr media
Woah!
*Akeru is suddenly hit with bright lights. The fake sky around her suddenly starts shifting, and light is cast down on the gazebo.
Tumblr media
What the-!? Are you guys seeing this?
Four: Seeing...still working on believing.
Makoto: What’s going on? What’s it doing!?
*Everyone waits for a second until the shifting stops. Then, suddenly, two hologram figures appear inside. One stands up and looks at the house, a figure who’s unrecognizable. The other is Yodogawa himself.
Tumblr media
...Take me inside...I’m tired...
Aoi: Why’s it acting like that?
Byakuya: Actually, I don’t think this is the house AI. It appears to have began some sort of...data reconstruction.
Toko: I get it. It’s showing us events that happened here a while ago. This is the REAL Seishi Yodogawa, or at least...a memory of him.
Tumblr media
Let’s stay in the gazebo a little longer. Don’t you think it’s nice to be home?
Komaru: Who the heck is THAT guy?
Tumblr media
I don’t know. The AI didn’t properly reconstruct him.
Makoto: Listen carefully Akeru. This could be important.
Tumblr media
This place...Listen to me Zen. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me up until now, but this place isn’t my home. It never will be.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry you don’t like it old friend. It was quite a project.
Tumblr media
Well, you wasted your money.
Tumblr media
So...YOU’RE this Zen guy...Now what relationship did you and my father have?
Tumblr media
I must ask. Why would you go through so much trouble for such a foolish enterprise?
Tumblr media
Let’s just say that it’s not easy to find people in my line of work this day and age. Tragedy time, sure, but now the world is recovering and...I guess I’d rather focus on what I’m good at rather than what Precepts Peak made me.
*The blue hologram sits down next to Seishi’s.
Tumblr media
Look. I know you’re scared. I would be too. But I will not leave your side until you’re better.
Tumblr media
Better? Better...!? What, so you know more than the doctors? Zen...I have Grade 3 Brain Cancer. There IS no getting better.
Tumblr media
Grade 3...!?
Tumblr media
Rgh...Bloody wristband!
*The reconstructed Seishi starts crying, tugging on the patient wristband. However, against expectation from anyone, the other mysterious figure, Zen, suddenly cuts the band off using a pair of garden clippers.
Tumblr media
Wh-What are you doing!?
Tumblr media
You’re sick and tired of the hospitals and doctors, right? Well, there are no more of them in your life...I’M taking care of you now.
Tumblr media
What...do you intend to do?
Tumblr media
You’ll see.
*The hologram reconstruction suddenly ends.
Komaru: Oooh...I’m not liking that...
Toko: Yeah...gonna be honest? Starting to have REAL BAD feelings about this “Zen” guy.
Makoto: But wait, did you guys see? Zen cut off the wristband. Maybe it was left here?
Tumblr media
Ah right! I see it!
*Akeru picks up.
Tumblr media
Seishi. Open the door to the house please.
Tumblr media
Sure. What is the code?
Tumblr media
4532.
Makoto: Oh...
Tumblr media
What?
Makoto: Sorry, for a second there I thought it might be...
Byakuya: 11037?
Makoto: I mean it USUALLY is.
Tumblr media
P-Password accepted. House unlocked.
Tumblr media
Sweet. Guess I’ll go in.
Kyoko: Be careful Akeru. The more we find out, the less I like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...
*Akeru steps inside the house. It’s dark, save for the light that pours in through the window. The living room she steps into is suspiciously cozy.
Byakuya: Take a look around. See if you can find what 404 wanted us to find.
Tumblr media
Alright...
*Akeru walks around the living room, but doesn’t find anything, but then she sees an offshoot of the room. She walks into it and finds a small garage full of bits of technology.
Tumblr media
Well, I think I found the part that Yodogawa was using as a lab...
Kyoko: Hm...I believe Seishi’s AI did say that it was used here. But I’m not sure. This seems too small to be a lab used to create AI technology.
Byakuya: And...what might THAT be?
Makoto: What?
Byakuya: Don’t you see it? The gigantic pane of glass leading into something dark?
Tumblr media
...?
*Sure enough, the room is divided by a big sheet of glass, with the area behind it being poorly lit. Akeru approaches the glass and peers inside.
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
I think something’s in there-
Tumblr media
RAWRGH GRARGGGH!!!
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAHHH!?
Komaru: AKERU! GET BACK!
Makoto: A BEAST MONOKUMA!?
Toko: Hold on! We’re coming down!
Tumblr media
No wait!
*Everyone stops.
Tumblr media
Rrrrggh...
Tumblr media
I don’t think it’s hostile...I think I just scared it.
Aoi: Are you crazy!? It’s a Beast Monokuma! They’re designed to ravage everything they see!
Kuripa: No, wait! She might be onto something! Look!
*Everyone takes another look through the earpiece.
Tumblr media
...
*The beast sits down quietly and stares at Akeru, not making any further attempts to attack her.
Kuripa: Besides, even if it is hostile, I doubt it’s getting past that glass. Yodogawa must have kept it here for a reason.
Makoto: But why would Yodogawa have a Monokuma in his basement?
Kyoko: ...
Aoi: Kyoko?
Kyoko: I have a theory...but I don’t like it...We can test it though.
Byakuya: Test it? How?
Kyoko: Akeru. I know this sounds crazy, but I need you to do me a favor.
Tumblr media
Go ahead.
Kyoko: Approach the glass...Call the Monokuma... “Lara”
Makoto: Lara?
Maya: That’s Yodogawa’s dead dog, isn’t it?
Four: Kyoko...You’re not saying...!?
Tumblr media
...Lara?
*Akeru attempts it, placing her hand on the glass.
Tumblr media
...*whimper*
Tumblr media
...!?
*The Beast immediately calms down, pressing it’s paw against the glass casing.
Kyoko: So it’s as I thought...
Komaru: Wait...why did it react like that!?
Toko: Did Yodogawa create an Alter Ego of his dog and put it a Monokuma?
Kyoko: ...I don’t think so...it’s something much...MUCH worse...
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
Seishi!
Tumblr media
Y-Yes Zen?
Tumblr media
Reconstruct another scene for me. I want to know what happened to this dog!
Tumblr media
Of course. Beginning experiment reconstruction.
*The AI drifts back out into the living room. Akeru swiftly follows. The two holograms from before appear again.
Tumblr media
Seishi, I promise you, the Neural Mapping procedure is completely safe! You’re being far too paranoid!
Tumblr media
What is WRONG with you Zen!? I said NO! And that’s final!
*Seishi sits on a sofa, but gets up on a pair of clearly unhealthy legs to yell at Zen further.
Tumblr media
I’ve been to the garage! I’ve seen what you did to Lara!
Tumblr media
Lara is alive and well!
Tumblr media
You call that ALIVE!? You took her brain and put it in that MONSTER!
Tumblr media
Where the hell do you get these TWISTED ideas Zen Katagiri!? If you plan on “curing” me through something like that, then forget it! I will NOT become another one of your sick creations!
Tumblr media
Sick? SICK!? You think I’M sick!? Well how do you think I became that way Yodogawa!?
Tumblr media
Zen...Listen to me. This is NOT your decision. If you really wanted to take care of me...You’d listen to my requests...
Tumblr media
...
*The hologram closes.
Tumblr media
!!!??
*After it does, Akeru rushes back into the garage and towards the Beast Monokuma behind the glass.
Tumblr media
*whimper*
Tumblr media
WHAT THE FUCK!?
Komaru: Akeru! Watch the language!
Kuripa: To hell with the language! This is some psychotic serial killer shit!
Aoi: Yodogawa really killed his own dog to turn it into this sick creation of his!?
Makoto: Hina! By now you should have realized that Yodogawa isn’t the one doing all of this!
Byakuya: Agreed. This other man - Zen Katagiri - He’s our true mastermind.
Aoi: But we haven’t even heard of this guy up until now. Who IS he!?
Maya: He’s fucking insane is what he is! No normal person could do THIS to a living creature!
Four: I agree...To make matters worse, Lara clearly doesn’t want to be in that body. I wouldn’t either.
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
Guys...I’m sorry, but...
Makoto: What’s wrong Akeru?
Tumblr media
I’m about to do something you guys might not like...
*Akeru suddenly goes over to the battery panel near the doorway. She flips it and looks at the mains.
Tumblr media
*sigh*
Byakuya: Are you gonna-
Kyoko: Shh.
Tumblr media
...
*Akeru reaches over to the levers and switches one off.
Tumblr media
*whimper!* Grrr...Ruff! ...
*A few seconds after she does, the Beast Monokuma stops moving.
Tumblr media
...There there...Good girl.
Tumblr media
...*sniff*...Good girl.
Kuripa: You’re a brave soul kid.
Byakuya: Agreed. Not many would be able to do what you just did.
Toko: Akeru...
Makoto: This isn’t right. We shouldn’t be subjecting her to this stuff.
Tumblr media
Uncle Koto, trust me...I’ve seen worse.
Makoto: Have you...!?
Tumblr media
Well...alright...it’s damn high up there on some of the worst stuff I’ve ever seen, but...I’ve got something even worse on my mind.
Komaru: What is it Akeru?
Tumblr media
If Katagiri did this to the family dog...
Tumblr media
...What the hell did he do to my father...?

izzie’s favorite movies and tv shows of 2020 (aka the worst year ever)
another year, another movie and tv show review. this year has, to put it simply, sucked. 2020 has been so terribly awful that sometimes the only light you can see are the absolute bangers of movies and tv shows that came out this year. with that being said, some of the movies and tv shows didn't come out in 2020. if the are mentioned in this post it is because they either: had a season come out this year, i found them this year, or they became popular this year.
SPOILERS: it may not come as a surprise but just in case you didn't realize, there will be many spoilers ahead, read at your own risk.
tw // death, suicide, drug use, mild adult language. if any of these things might trigger you, i strongly urge you not to read this post.
there is no specific order of these shows and movies, i'm just writing as they come to mind. if you enjoy any of these movies or tv shows, or if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
TV SHOWS
1) Santa Clarita Diet
Okay, so I know this show doesn't have anything to do with 2020. But, I found this show in 2020. I put it off for a while, thinking it wasn't my style of a show, but boy was I wrong. I loved this show. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is a normal suburban wife and mom. She is a real estate agent with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant). She struggles with the fact that she isn't very adventurous. This all changes when she throws up an insane amount at a house showing. She then finds herself craving adventure, and craving human flesh. Yeah, she's a zombie. Not only is this show super hilarious, but it also shows the growth that they have with their characters and their family. I'm also team Abby (Liv Hewson) and Eric (Skyler Gisondo).
Tumblr media
2) Outer Banks
So, I'm from NC. And, watching this show at first bothered me because I can very obviously tell this show isn't actually filmed in the obx, and the geography isn't exact, but once I got past that, I loved it. John B (Chase Stokes) is a teenager that lives in the poor side of the outer banks. He has a friend group called the Pogues which consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kie (Madison Bailey). They absolutely hate the Kooks, which are the rich kids. A while after John B's dad gets lost at sea, presumed dead, the group finds some evidence that may solve the mystery, and make them rich. In the process, John B falls in love with a Kook names Sarah (Madelyn Cline) whose father Ward (Charles Esten) may have a little more to do with the mystery than he let on. Through friendship, murder, and secrets, the gang may just figure out what happened to John B's dad.
Tumblr media
3) Love, Victor
Alright. I loved loved loved Love, Simon. I also really loved the book "Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda." So, when I heard about this show, I was so excited. Victor (Michael Cimino) is a teenage boy that moved to Creekwood with his family. He meets Felix (Anthony Turpel) who lives in his building. He also meets Mia (Rachel Hilson) and they begin dating. But, he also meets Benji (George Sear). While trying to get used to a new school, new friends, and a new relationship, Victor finds himself questioning his sexuality. With the help of Simon (Nick Robinson) and his friends, Victor finds it in himself to finally come out, and he admits his feelings, for Benji. This is such a good show, but I was so upset when season 1 ended on a cliff-hanger.
Tumblr media
4) The Haunting of Bly Manor
The sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. Now listen, haunting of hill house was an absolute banger. When I saw that Bly came out I nearly died. I was so excited. But, I was alone in my apartment and also a lil bitch. So, I had to wait a week until I was home with my family to watch it. Now, I was so excited to be scared, and there were a few jump scares and ominous moments, but this season was more centered around the story line of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti) and her new life in a foreign country. When seeing an ad for a live in job as an au pair. When she gets there, she meets the two young children she’ll be looking out for and the other workers of the house, including the gardener, Jamie (Amelia Eve). Throughout her stay at Bly she begins to notice weird behaviors from both children and by the end of the series she sacrifices herself for the children. Sadly, this story is being told by Jamie who Dani had fallen in love with during her stay at Bly. Now I was somewhat upset about the lack of horror, but was still very intrigued and drawn in by this series.
Tumblr media
5) Julie and the Phantoms
Alright, at first I was not gonna watch this show. I thought it looked a little too young and childish for me, but everyone was talking about it on twitter so I had to. I. Love. This. Show. This show centers around Julie (Madison Reyes). Julie is a teenage girl who, sadly, lost her mother. The one major thing she shared with her mom, was their love for music. Since her mothers passing, she gave up music. This is until, dead musicians from the 90′s show up in her garage. Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) all tragically passed away in the 90′s after eating bad street hotdogs. When Julie finds their CD in her garage, she decides to play it and they come back in ghost form. But, only she can see them. With their help, she finds her confidence to play music again. Also, she has to find away for them to stay because they’re slowly disappearing.
Tumblr media
6) Derry Girls
Bitch. I love this show. And yeah it didn’t come out in 2020. Shut up. I found this show recently after watching the cast on the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show. I loved the actors so I had to watch the show. This show focuses on Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) a 16 year old girl that lives in Derry, Northern Ireland in the 90′s. Alongside her is her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), her two friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn). During these years, a lot of people in Ireland struggled, especially because it was during wartime. Even thought this show isn’t focused heavily around the war, it’s amazing to see these teens live a fulfilling life while struggling with the state of their country, and the lack of money that their families have.
Tumblr media
7) Elite
HA. This show did have a season in 2020 so leave me alone. But bro, I love this show. At first, I didn’t watch it because I thought I could only watch the dubbed version in English, which I hate. I hate dubbed shows they look so weird. But, once I found out I could watch this show in Spanish, I fell in love. But, sadly, theres too damn much to talk about in one little post. It’s crazy. But basically it just follows the lives of teens in high school that are trying to survive. And no, not in the “I’m surviving high school,” sense. No, people be getting murdered.
Tumblr media
MOVIES (tbh i didn’t find a lot of movies good this year lmk which movies u liked this year and maybe i’ll like them!)
1) All the Bright Places
After the death of her sister, Violet (Elle Fanning) is devastated. She closes herself off, and has her parents get her out of doing school work that involves working with others. But, as time goes on, they realize she may need to start to move on. Violet then meets Finch (Justice Smith) who is enamored by Violet. He suggests they do a project together. While finding and visiting some of the smallest wonders of their state, they begin to fall for each other. While you are focusing on Violet and her mental health, you tend to miss some of the signs that Finch’s mental health isn’t great either, but by the time you do, it could be too late.
Tumblr media
2) Dangerous Lies
Hmm. This was weird for me. I had only ever seen Camila Mendes in Riverdale, and honestly, not a fan. So, Katie (Camila Mendes) and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are struggling with money. Katie decides to take a job working for an elderly man, and eventually gets her husband hired there as well. Unfortunately, he dies, but for some odd reason, leaves the house and all of his fortune, to Katie. As they get comfortable in the house, they begin to uncover some very weird and dangerous lies.
Tumblr media
3) The Devil All the Time
Ok. Iconic. You got so many hot men in this movie. Bill Skarsgård, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. C’mon now. That’s crazy. But, this story is so long and in depth that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. This movie is a bit disturbing. It involves murder, sexual assault, killing of animals, and so much more so if that’s an issue for you please do not watch this movie. It was also quite long, but it was still good.
Tumblr media
4) After We Collided
Okay just listen. I was that teenager. I read wattpad stories and was, embarrassingly, addicted to After. This was not a great movie per say, but it was After. This is a sequel to the movie After. This movie centers around Tessa (Josephine Langford) and her recovery after her breakup with Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Theres sex, alcohol, bad acting. The whole nine-yards. But c’mon, they’re so cute together.
Tumblr media
5) To All the Boys p.s. I Still Love You
Okay it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. This movie focuses on Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and her boyfriend Peter (Noah Centineo) and their relationship post the first movie. But of course relationships aren’t super steady, and John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) shows up. Yeah, John Ambrose, from her letter. They become closer and Lara Jean has to decide who she wants to be with. Spoiler, it’s Peter. BOOOOOOO justice for John Ambrose McClaren, he deserved better.

Simon/Oliver: Celtic Knots
CW: SHAMELESS FLUFF, conditioning, painful memory triggers, self doubt/deprecating thoughts,
Masterlist
This might be the longest chapter I’ve written for them, or just for a singular fic overall.  So much angsty fluff, I love it.  This is probably one of my favorite pieces <3
---
“You wanna go out?”
Oliver looked up from the puzzle he was putting together on the floor, pushing up his glasses a little.  He had the border done, working corners to center to piece together a picture of a fox.  Simon was standing in the doorway, dressed with a backpack slung over his shoulder.
“Want to take you downtown, there's a nice shop there I think you’d like.  It's not a long walk, it’ll do you some good.”
He glanced nervously at the window, the idea of going out where lots of people were, or just..just going outside making him nervous.  It was a dark, overcast morning, the kind of weather that made Oliver sleepy and relaxed.  It looked like it was threatening to rain, but that didn’t seem to deter Simon from his idea.
“I- are you sure?”  He asked quietly, bringing his uninjured knee up to his chest, resting his chin on his knee.  His other leg had a boot on it, the cast thankfully long gone.  He could walk a little better, now, just couldn’t be on his feet for long.  “..By ourselves? What if-”
“Nothing’s gonna happen.”  Simon cut in before Oliver could start sounding panicky.  “It's super local, nobody will give a second thought about us being out.  Plus, the people who own the place are good friends with Marie.  They know.”
Oliver nodded slowly, looking down and fidgeting with his sleeve.  Simon was familiar with the area, went out with Marie a lot.  If Simon insisted it was safe..
“Ok.”  He nodded before he could start overthinking it, smiling a little.  “Sounds like fun.”
Simon's face broke out into a smile that made Oliver’s heart warm, and he quickly came forward, holding out a hand to help him up.  Oliver liked seeing him smile like that, he didn’t do it very often.  He was quickly helped to his feet and handed his hoodie, happy but still nervous to follow Simon to the door.
“You’ll love it, I promise.”  He pulled the door open and led them out into the chilly air.  There were pumpkins on the porch, some with designs carved into them.  Oliver wrapped his arms around himself with a shiver as he walked slowly beside Simon, enjoying the feeling of cool breeze against his skin despite how cold it was.
It was fall, apparently.  Initially all Oliver really knew about it was that the weather changed, but he’d quickly discovered that in the safehouse it meant a lot more.  He’d been amazed as Mia dusted off an autumn cookbook and handed it to him, explaining that they usually made a lot of dishes for the season.  He’d spent over two hours sitting on the couch with it, cuddled up to Simon who was all too willing to read off the recipes to him.
Oliver very quickly discovered he loved everything that came with fall.  From all the new recipes to the cold rainy weather, the hot chocolate Mia bought everyone and the leaves and the funny movies Kendric put on the tv and just- everything.  He loved fall.  It gave him a very good excuse to wrap himself in endless blankets in front of the small fireplace, to fall asleep beside it listening to an audiobook and pretend he hadn’t stirred when he was picked up and brought to his room.
He loved the little orange lights strung up in front of the stores as they walked down the street, how everything just seemed so warm and cozy and safe.  He loved how Luna matched the color scheme of the whole thing, but he’d never admit it, the thought felt silly.
The sidewalk they were on was mostly empty, only a few people passing them and barely sparing the pair a glance, to Oliver’s relief.  He stared down at the brick, happy to ease himself by observing the cracks in the stone and leaves scattered on the ground.
He almost ran into Simon when he came to a stop, blinking and pulling himself from his thoughts.  They were in front of a small shop, books and antiques lining the window displays.  Antiques.  That was a strange word.  Oliver wasn’t sure what that word meant or how he knew it, just knew it felt like a right descriptor for what he was looking at.
“We’re here.”  Simon grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the door, the bell ringing as it swung open.  As soon as they stepped in Oliver was hit by the smell of cinnamon and old books, his glasses fogging slightly at the sudden, warm change of temperature.  There were books everywhere, old furniture pushed up against the walls and shelves lined with knicknacks filling the small space.  It was a gorgeous shop, sparking wonder in Oliver’s mind.  He almost didn’t notice someone, an older looking man, turning the corner and offering a small wave to the pair.
“You must be Marie’s boys.”  He said warmly.  Oliver startled a little, pressing against Simon’s side as his gaze snapped to the stranger.  He dropped his hand, a curious but gentle look crossing his face.  “You’re fine here, I can promise you that.  No need to be nervous.”
“He’s just a little shy.”  Simon explained, holding out his hand.  “I’m Simon, and this is Oliver.  I’ve been here with Mia, but Lara was the only one in, I think.”
The man took Simon's hand and shook it, smiling.  “Nice to meet you, I’m Greg.  Y’all can look around as long as you want, I’ll just be wandering around, pretending to be busy stocking or whatever Lara thinks I’m doing.”
Simon snorted, shaking his head as he dropped his hand back down to his side.  “I’ll leave you to it, then.  It was nice meeting you.”
He led Oliver around to the side of the store, the floorboards of old wood creaking just slightly as they moved.  The boy looked around curiously, eyeing crystals and jewelry and books lined up endlessly along the shelves.  He let a little bit of distance between him and Simon grow, letting some of the tension and nervousness melt.  He always kept the other in his line of vision, though, watching him start to rummage through shelves and leave Oliver to explore independently.
He stopped at a tall bookshelf, eyeing the crystals laid out carefully with wonder.  Some were purple, others a deep, earthy green, others white, almost clear.  He was hesitant to touch them, feeling as if he wasn’t allowed.  He hesitantly lifted a hand to feel one, spending no more than a moment or two with any particular item before setting it back down.
He picked up a small pendant laid on the shelf, bringing it up into the light to look at.  It was a dark purple, hints of lighter color mixed and faded with it.  It had a small pattern engraved into it, and he ran his finger over it to feel the grooves.
“Celtic knot,”  He hummed without thinking, mostly to himself.  He blinked, staring at the pendant.  He wasn’t sure what the word meant, or why he remembered it. I love the little moments when they remember things but they have no attachment to the word, it’s one of my favorite nuances of boxie conditioning.
“Hm?”  Simon, who’d been flipping through a book, stopped and looked up, gaze dropping to the necklace Oliver was holding.  “Did you say something, Ollie?”
Oliver’s brows furrowed as he tried to dig deeper into that word, that memory he knew had to be associated with it.  The word felt old, like the shop.  It felt like music and the smell of leather or food, like a hand intertwined in his pulling him along through a crowd of colors.  It carried laughter and a finger smudging icing against his temple, the feeling of a kiss on his cheek.  It felt like..like..damn it.  It was already fading, the piercing pain replacing the memories he so desperately wanted to grab hold of.  His head hurt and he couldn’t find it, it felt like it was just beyond his reach.  He could almost hear the sound of voices that sounded so familiar but so far away, his vision blurring and darkening as he got dizzy with the feeling, like an old building caving in on itself, lost and forgotten and torn down even with all those memories still locked inside, people wanting to destroy it.  He wanted to find it, he needed to-
“Ollie.”
He startled when a hand closed over his, blinking and flinching back. He was..on the floor, leaning over with Simon sitting in front of him.  Oliver stifled a whimper, fighting the burst of pain in his head that threatened to take over him at the disobedience of trying to dig that far.  He was still clutching the necklace, Simon's hand warm over his.
“Deep breaths, you’re ok.  We’re in that little shop just around the corner from the house, nobody is here except for us and Greg.  Breathe, Oliver, I’m right here.”
Oliver let himself fall forward against Simon's chest, breathing in his smell of coffee and grass and rain.  Arms wrapped around him and squeezed, calming the raging storm inside his mind, almost as if the pressure and comfort was compressing his thoughts until they calmed and faded out.  He let out a breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding, the pin of stress holding him tight pulled out of him and allowing him to unravel.
“Sorry,”  Oliver murmured, letting himself relax.  He let the memory slip away, letting the pain and tension leave with it.  “Thought too hard..I tried to remember..”
A gentle hand pried his fingers open to reveal the necklace where he’d been gripping it tightly.
“This what set you off?”  Simon asked, starting to pull it away.  Oliver pulled it back to his chest instinctively, like he wanted to protect it.  It sparked something in him for a reason he couldn’t identify, a shadow of previous life he wanted to hang on to.  He could let go of the memory but wanted to keep the feeling, the echo of that laughter and a warm feeling in his chest.
“Reminded me of something,”  He let Simon pull him back to his feet, staring at the necklace.  If he didn’t dig too deep into the memory the warm, familiar feeling of the necklace could stay just that, a comfort.  He didn’t need to push it beyond that.
“You want it?”  Simon asked.
Oliver blinked in surprise, gaze lifting to the others open, genuine expression.
“I..I can have it?  What do you mean?”  He asked questioningly.  It wasn’t his, he couldn’t just have it, could he?
“It’s a store, you walnut.”  He ruffled Oliver’s hair, chuckling.  “Mia gave me some cash to take you out, there's a coffee place I wanna swing by before we go home.  We can get the necklace if you like it, I’m getting a few books.”
Oliver’s eyes widened slightly as he started to nod but hesitated.  He wasn’t sure he deserved this, to have people do so much for him.  It seemed so nice, and they already did so much for him.
“Are you sure?”  He asked quietly.  “It's not..too much?
“Oliver, its-”  Simon sighed, checking the small paper tag on the necklace.  “-ten bucks.  We can spend ten bucks on something that reminds you of something nice.  You..you need to realize that you deserve things, Ollie.  Even small things that maybe don’t feel important, like gifts or getting paid attention to, those small things.  I know they feel like things you don’t deserve or cost us a lot, but that's not true.  It's just a kind of affection, Oliver.  An affection you deserve.”
Oliver was stunned for a moment, swallowing thickly as the words settled into his mind.  He’d heard similar things before, but it felt like he’d put a wall up for himself against it.  Or maybe someone else forced him to.
He took a breath, forcing himself to let those words past his walls.  Simon smiled as he nodded, taking his hand and squeezing it reassuringly.
He was full of anxious energy as they went back to the front of the store, Simon carrying a small stack of books and Oliver the pendant.  He barely paid attention to the small talk exchanged between Simon and Greg, thumb rubbing back and forth against the small pattern on the crystal.  A small smile pulled at his lips, and he swayed slightly from side to side with contentment.
“You ready?”  Simon asked, snapping Oliver out of the quiet place in his mind he’d zoned out in.  He nodded, giving a small wave to the older man as he followed Simon out of the store.  Despite having overloading himself he felt a sense of calm over him, a sense of familiarity over himself.  He hoped it would stay.
There was gentle rainfall now, a soft drizzle that dampened Oliver’s hair as he stepped out of the store.  He took the pendant, his pendant, and looped it over his head as they started walking, and he tried to ignore the small hint of pain starting to build in his leg.  He wasn’t going to ask Simon if they could turn back, this meant too much to him.
He took reassurance in the small weight around his neck, though, following Simon as he guided them just around the corner towards another shop, this one with big windows where you could clearly see the inside.  It was a little hard to see, now, water droplets covering his glasses.  He took them off, resolving to wait until he could wipe them off inside.
He had to go up a step going through the shop's door, leaning against Simon's arm for help.  The first thing that hit him was the smell, Oliver couldn’t recognize what it was but it smelled amazing.  There were small lights strung up all over the place, dark wood and stone for the walls.  The entire place looked perfectly cozy, and yet very open and airy.  It didn’t make him feel claustrophobic, despite the fact there were other people, people he didn’t know, inside.
“Why don’t you go sit and wait for me over there, you’ll be in my line of sight and I promise nobody will bother you.”
Oliver’s gaze moved to where Simon was pointing, a small booth in the front corner of the shop, by the window.  He pressed his lips together and nodded, walking hesitantly to the empty booth.  Simon seemed to know the people here, smiling as he pointed up at the menu on the wall and talking casually with the woman at the counter.  Oliver avoided looking at it, knowing he wouldn’t be able to read it, anyways.  He wiped the water off his glasses with the fabric of the shirt under his hoodie, sliding them back on with relief.
He let himself relax enough to turn away, looking out the window as the rain started to get heavier, the sidewalks clearing as people hurried on their way to get out of the weather.  He let himself focus on the array of colors reflecting off the water droplets rolling down the window panes, street and store lights alike making the water sparkle and swirl in color.
More and more tension melted from him with each sound of rain hitting the window, eyes subconsciously darting along the pane to watch the drops race down the glass, some rolling all the way out of his sight and others staying, catching the light and blurring his view of the outside.
“Here we go, Ollie.  You doing ok?”
Oliver turned his head as Simon sat down across from him, sliding a drink across the table to him and holding his own.  Orange leaves swirled in pattern around the cup, the cream colored drink cold when he picked it up.  It had golden lines of syrup coming down the sides, but Oliver wasn’t sure what it was.
“Yea.  What is it?”  He asked curiously.  Simon had a playful glint in his eyes, leaning back in the booth as he took a drink of his own.
“Coffee.” Simon said excitedly, winking.  “It's a latte, got you vanilla with caramel.  You’ll love it, I promise.”
Oliver raised an eyebrow as he took a careful sip, eyebrows shooting up at the sweet taste.  His face broke out in a smile as he drank more, overwhelmed by the strong vanilla, a hint of caramel accompanying it, an almost ice cream type taste.  It had a bit of a more bitter aftertaste mixed in, but surprisingly he didn’t mind it.  It definitely smelled like coffee, too.  It was similar to how Simon smelled.
“It's good, right?  I didn’t get you decaf so don’t drink it too fast, and don’t you dare let Marie know I let you have it.  She’ll kill me if she knew I let you anywhere near caffeine.”
“It's good.”  Oliver confirmed with a nod before continuing sipping at it, grinning.  “Won’t tell anyone, promise.”
Simon leaned over and pointed to the counter, where the girl who took his order was busy at the register.  She had purple hair pulled up into a bun, a tattoo showing on the back of her neck and disappearing below her shirt collar.  She had dark skin, the golden bracelets on her arm contrasting sharply with the tone.  She was pretty, Oliver thought to himself.  Really pretty.
“That's Lilith, she made our drinks.  She’s really nice, I talk to her sometimes when I come here.  Alec isn’t here today, it looks like, but he’s also really cool to talk to.  I can introduce you to them sometime, if you’re feeling up for it.  They both work most of the week.”
Oliver felt a sudden pang of sadness, of jealousy at the fact Simon seemed so familiar with the place.  He already had known Simon went out on errands and such, was able to go around on his own, but it still felt weird.  It made him feel out of place, here, made him feel separate from Simon in a way, which terrified him.  Simon could..he could leave, if he wanted to.  He could read, he could take care of himself, he could do everything Oliver couldn't.  He had friends and could handle himself in the world.  He looked..like he was healing.  Like he could be his own person again, which means he didn’t need Oliver anymore.
“What's wrong?”
He kept his gaze down, feeling a little sick to his stomach as he fidgeted with the straw on his drink.  He didn’t want to ask it, didn’t want to ruin their day and how happy Simon was feeling, but he couldn’t help the growing question in his mind.
“Why haven’t you left me, yet?”  He asked, voice breaking.  There was a complete silence between them, and after a long moment Oliver dared to glance up at Simon.  His lips were pressed together, jaw set, a hardened but confused expression in his eyes.
“What do you mean, Oliver?”  He asked very, very quietly.  Oliver looked away again, wishing he’d never voiced the question.
“You just..you’re able to live.  You, um, you can talk to people, and live, just..just existing, I guess, with people.  You could move on, if you wanted to.  You’re not hurting, anymore, so you don’t need me.”
He could see Simon tapping on the table in his line of vision, the sound of soft voices and traffic surrounding them.  He could feel that warmth and security fading, and he had nobody to blame but himself.
“I’m still hurting, Oliver.”  Simon finally answered.  “I..I wanted to hide that, from you.  I thought I was protecting you, by not showing you when I was hurting.”
The wave of guilt that replaced that jealousy made Oliver grimace.  It was selfish, to think like that.  He should know Simon went through things just as bad as him, if not worse.  He knew Simon was beaten, starved, conditioned, tortured just as much as he was, and he’d watched it, too.  He should know Simon just hid it well, dealt with it well.  Who was he to put a label on Simon, to act like -
“Hey-”  Simon's finger was under Oliver’s chin, tilting his head up so he could look him in the eyes, expression gentle.  “Don’t start down that road in your mind, I can already see your gears turning.  It's not your fault, and I understand why you could get scared and feel that way.  All I want you to understand is that I’m not going anywhere, you hear me?  I don’t plan on leaving, not unless you ever wanted me to.”
The finger left Oliver’s chin and jabbed at his chest gently, his green eyes feeling sharp and piercing in comparison to Oliver’s soft, brown ones.
“You mean everything to me, Oliver.  You’re not a job, or a burden, or an obligation, or some project I plan on ditching when I’m finished.  You’re not just some comfort to me until I’m good enough to leave.  Fuck- Oliver I don’t think I could last, without you.  I really and truly don’t think I could.  I love you, and I’d go through every second of that facility again to prove that.”
The sound of rain felt like a blanket around them, a distinct sound that kept Oliver locked right where he was in the moment instead of allowing him to flee somewhere deep in his mind.  He felt frozen, his stubborn resolve starting to crack.  He inhaled shakily, choosing his words carefully.
“..really?”  He breathed, heart fluttering.  “You’re not..leaving?  When you’re ok again?”  Oliver wasn’t sure he could ever be ok again, ok enough to be normal and live again.  Simon could, though, so he expected him to..leave, eventually.  To move on without him.  That was always the expectation.
“God no, Oliver.  I always thought we could..stick together, you know?  Unless you ever wanted to move on.  I never planned on leaving.”  His face was sad, voiced laced with grief and guilt Oliver had never heard from him before.  “Did you..think I was leaving?  That I was going to move on without you, eventually?”
Oliver just shrugged, but they both knew the interpretation to that.
“Oliver...you know I..want to stay with you, right?  I’m not saying this out of some obligation to take care of you, I want to live with you.  You’re family to me.”
Oliver took a sip of his drink, focusing on that strong vanilla taste.  He pressed his lips together before letting out a breath, some of his anxiety leaving with it.  Someone laughed at a table behind them, the sounds of the rest of the world seeming to tune back in.
“Oh.”
With a little work, he was able to let more words past his walls.
--
“-o carry you?”
Oliver startled, blinking as he held back a yawn.  Simon was looking at him with an amused expression, hands shoved in his pockets as they stood back outside the coffee shop.  It had stopped raining, mostly, the sky still dark and giving the downtown area a quiet feel.
“S,Sorry..sorry what did you say?”  He asked apologetically, shivering a little.  He felt exhausted, eyelids drooping even as he stood.  Small, sharp pangs of pain shot through his leg every time he put weight on it, a constant reminder he was pushing himself too far.
“I asked if you wanted me to carry you.  Thought the caffeine would have you bouncing off the walls, but you look like you’re about to fall asleep.”
“Oh,”  Oliver hummed tiredly, shifting his weight back and forth between his feet to sway slightly.  He felt calm, which felt strange to him considering.  He drank the whole coffee despite Simon’s warning to be careful with the new substance, and now he just felt like he wanted to curl up under a blanket and sleep.  “Sure..if that's ok.  My, um, my leg kind of hurts.”
Simon crouched down on one knee, gesturing to him.
“It's not that far from the house, I don’t mind.  My fault for pushing you to walk so far.”
“It's fine.”  Oliver hummed, wrapping his arms around Simon's neck and letting the other lift him, arms hooking under his knees to hoist him up.  He was content to rest his head against his arm tucked against Simon’s neck, closing his eyes and listening to the soft sounds of traffic as he started walking.  A car, someone talking in hushed whispers, heels on the sidewalk.  There was a bird hovering somewhere, a dog yapping in excitement.  Drops of water dripped quietly from the overhangs of buildings, a few hitting the top of Oliver’s hair when they passed underneath them.
He could still feel the weight of the pendant around his neck, a new reminder of a distant feeling, one he wished he could remember.  Maybe one day he would remember, would be able to visualize the face of that person he remembered, or at least grasp the meaning behind the warmth in his chest.  Maybe there was somebody who cared about him before.  Maybe Oliver had lived, before.
Things were quiet.
His mind was quiet, the thoughts drifting and making him wonder calmly and curiously, not stiffen with anxiety of unknowing.  He didn’t need all the answers, right now.  He could just cling to the feeling.
He could barely muster the energy to stir when he was lowered, his back meeting soft cushion that sank under his weight.  It was warm, now, something dry and soft tucked around him as his glasses were pulled off, folded with a soft clinking of metal.
Arms wrapped around him and squeezed softy, fingers running up his scalp.  His back was against something solid, the back of a couch, he deduced, his face tucked carefully against a warm chest.  He melted against the full, surrounding contact that compressed and seemed to hold him together, not make him claustrophobic like some might assume.
Simon was humming something Oliver couldn’t stay awake enough to register, the vibration of his voice deep in his chest just pulling him closer to sleep.  He mulled over what Simon had said, the words repeating idly in his head even as he slipped into the quiet.  He was ready to try and trust Simon for who he was, what both of them were, instead of a need for survival and comfort.  To trust that he was staying, that he cared beyond how he was forced to.
He was ready to start letting more past his walls, he decided
And he was ready to start believing he deserved to

This Better Work Part 2
Sweet Pea X OC
Summery; Hey guys, not sure how well this is going to go but I originally put it on Wattpad so its way long, but hopefully its not horrendous. Let me know what you think! So, it follows the story line kind of, it’s not exact but I have tried and it follows my OC Ali as she navigates through the hell that is Riverdale. Whilst struggling with financial, social and romantic difficulties, she has the added pressure of keeping up with school work and bonus of being thrown into the frightening world of the criminal underground.
Side Note; None of the gifs or pictures I use are mine, I’m not talented or smart enough to even begin an attempt at making my own. Thank you to those who have such abilities and if you don’t want me using them then please let me know so I can remove them for you.

"Get in, we're picking up Izzy and dearest Mummy Masters before going on a girls afternoon at the spa!" Cheryl called from the driveway. Ali had spent her day filing paperwork, signing forms and reorganizing the stock room for the thousandth time. Alongside fixing the mistakes the apprentices made. It was fair to say she was stress and drained. She needed this spa evening.
"Cheryl Bombshell Blossom I Love you to the moon and back!" Ali cheered leaping from her desk and bolting through the door, waving good bye to the apprentice at the desk behind hers as she dived in besides Cheryl.
"I know, I love you too." Cheryl replied, with a proud grin as she sped down the road towards Ali's house.
It was nothing big or fancy, nor was it you typical northside house. Ali lived in an old stone cottage with large vines crawling up the side, the garden was flooded with life. Plants springing from every corner, it was small but cosy. Ali loved living there. Even though it was in desperate need of maintenance, it still felt like home and her uncle came around whenever he got the chance, to fix things and help around the house. Cheryl thought Ali's home was just what it should be, a home. There were photos of family and friends plastering the walls and it always smelt like cookies and home baking. Ali darted inside to jump in the shower ready to scrub wash away as much of the dirt and grime as she could.
"Cheryl! So lovely to see you! We've just made red velvet cupcakes, want one?" Ali's mum greeted Cheryl embracing her in a big mum hug. Cheryl couldn't help but feel at home here.
"Yes please, Mrs. Masters that would be lovely." She teased, taking a perfectly baked and decorated cupcake from the tray in front of her.
"Oh, stop it. I've told you, call me Rosie please! Mrs. Masters makes me sound old." Rosie laughed giving her an amused scowl and placing a comforting hand on Cheryl’s arm before heading into the living room to tell Izzy it was time to go.
The girls spent the evening relaxing drinking wine (lemonade for Izzy) and gossiping. Ali told them about the rumours she'd heard from different customers throughout the day, whilst Izzy told them all about the latest boy trouble in her year. It was the perfect end to a very stressful day.

"Ali wake up. Ali wake up!" Izzy cheered excitedly, bouncing on the bottom of Ali's Bed. She lifted her head marginally from her pillow to glance over at the clock beside the vase filled with her favourite flowers. 8am. Ali flopped her head back onto her soft, blue pillow groaning as she pulled the pale blue duvet covers over her head.
"Izzy it's 8am on a Sunday. This is my one day off!" Ali groaned sleepily into her pillow.
"Exactly Ali! It's your day off and you promised to help me and Sam with our science project! Please Ali! I made you tea and pancakes. Well mum made them, but I helped." Izzy beamed, her sweet innocence overwhelming Ali forcing her to get up like some twisted Jedi mind trick. She couldn't say no to her little sister. Slowly, she climbed out of bed throwing on a pair of scruffy, black, skinny jeans and a grey tank top over her black sports bra, grabbing a faded grey hoodie and the pair of fluffy neon orange socks Izzy had found for her before hopping down stairs.
"You look like shit Ali!" Rosie stated handing her a large mug of tea and a plate of pancakes and blueberries.
"Thanks mum, good morning to you too." Ali replied sarcastically, laughing at her mothers no messing, straight to the point comment. Rosie handed Izzy a hair brush so she could start brushing her sisters insanely long and messy hair whilst Ali wolfed down her plateful of pancakes. Throwing her socks on and glugging down her tea in seconds.
"There you go Ali, mum showed me how to plait so I did your hair like Lara Croft! She's a Bad ass too!" Izzy grinned jumping down from her stool and running over to the front door to grab her helmet and Ali's combat boots.
"Looks like you're off then Ali!" Rosie smiled gesturing to Izzy who was desperately trying to do the laces on her own combat boots. Ali thought it was cute that Izzy looked up to her so much. She even dressed like her. Izzy wore a pair of grey jeans and black t-shirt, paired with a black hoodie with a bright orange zip and tassels. That explains the socks. Ali thought as she wandered over to help Izzy tie her navy-blue combat boots.
"Oh, and I said I'd help Hog Eye balance the books for the Wyrm tonight. You should pop by and say hello." Rosie called as they threw on their helmets and fingerless leather gloves.
"All over it! Love you Mum!" The sisters called back in chorus before disappearing out the door and racing to the old Harley Davidson tucked away in its own little shed. That was the first thing to go up when they moved in. Before unpacking or doing any of the other usual moving house things people do. The Masters family spent the day choosing the perfect spot to build a shed for the Harley.
"Hold on tight Izzy!" Ali called once Izzy tapped her shoulder giving her the ok. The girls sped off down the road heading towards the Sunday morning market in Greendale so they could grab some water balloons and the ingredients for s’mores. Though it was far too cold for a water fight, the girls agreed it would be a good distraction and make warming up by the fire all the more fun.
Ali quickly parked the bike next to a bunch of others. Safety in numbers and what have you. Before swinging Izzy onto her back and sprinting off into the crowd to grab the supplies. They were quick and efficient with Ali grabbing the stuff they needed whilst Izzy counted out the cash and paid. The girls were finished and back at the bike in less than an hour. Packing the stuff in the bags either side of the seats laughing about a grouchy raven-haired boy they had bumped into on their way round.
"Maybe he was having a bad day!" Izzy thought as she sat on the back of the bike sipping her hot chocolate and looking over at the various array of bikes.
"You think maybe we should've bought him a hot chocolate to cheer him up?" Ali asked her sister. She loved spending time with her. Listening to the innocent, unfiltered comments that she came out with.
"With extra whipped cream and marshmallows!" Izzy agreed thinking back to the scowl hidden beneath a few strands of raven black hair. "He was crazy tall as well. So its not like he’s grumpy 'cos he couldn't reach the cookie jar!"
"Yeah he's like goliaths angry love child." Ali chuckled before her eyes shot wide open as it suddenly dawned on her. She quickly began scanning through the array of bikes until her gaze settled on the bike she had spent the previous night fixing up.
"No freaking way! Izzy get over her with your printy camera thingy ma jig." She instructed, ushering towards the Harley she had fixed up.
"You mean my polaroid, but I'll let it slide. Why? What's up buttercup?" Izzy skipped over to the bike, puzzled by what was going on.
"Jump on and strike a pose we are leaving this kid some crazy selfies to cheer him up." Ali replied, the determination in her voice was overpowering.
Izzy climbed up on the bike and the girls began taking selfie after selfie, making a little sign with a piece of scrap paper in Ali's pocket and a permanent marker, that read 'Don't worry, you'll find your smile!'. They left the pile of selfies on the seat wrapped in a pretty, floral paper bag with a pack of water balloons on top before setting off towards Sunnyside Trailer park.

"Morning Momma Fogarty!" The girls called as they pulled up outside the Fogarty family trailer.
"Ah girls come in, come in. I must pop out for a bit but Sam's inside doing her homework and Fangs is asleep. Feel free to wake him up and get him doing some homework. He was out all-night last night with his boy scouts group doing god knows what!" She rambled, welcoming the girls in and making them a cup of tea each before scurrying out the door, waving a final goodbye. Her orange floral dress hugging her chubby curves.
"Well that was intense. You guys get started on your science project. I'm going to go and wake up sleeping beauty." Ali grinned wickedly, heading down to the small room at the end of the trailer, pausing before she knocked on the door.
"He doesn't have a person in there with him, does he?" Ali asked giving the girls a concerned glance. The tanned girl shook her head giggling as Ali nodded taking a deep breath before swinging the door to Fangs room open and leaning casually against the door frame.
"MAA its Sunday!" Fangs groaned into his pillow, the light stretching through the doorway was the only source of light in his small, trailer house bedroom. The stench of whiskey and beer hung thickly in the stale air.
"What's up Buttercup, the sunlight hurt?" Ali sympathised sarcastically before sauntering over to the curtains and flinging them open.
"Come on tequila worm, coffees on and we're making a science project. Oh, and Mama Fogarty wants your homework done. I'll help if you get up before Izzy's finished filling the bucket. You have ice, right?" Ali asked rather seriously before disappearing out the door and moving to hold the door to the bathroom open.
Turning to her sister and mouthing "Glass of water" to her. Izzy jumped up excited to be helping and grabbed a large pint glass of water for Ali.
The second Fangs heard the tap running he bolted out of bed in a blind panic. His eyes shooting wide with fear as he realized his big mistake when the sudden urge to vomit took control of his limbs and insides. He bolted out his bedroom to the bathroom. Ali stood by the door until Izzy handed her a glass of water. Laughing when Ali winked at her before moving to crouch beside Fangs rubbing his back and handing him the glass.
"Ali should we get the Hangover cure ready?" Izzy asked poking her head round the door frame.
"Better had and whilst you're at it, grab Fangs some comfy clothes. He appears to have forgotten he’s in his underwear." Ali spoke quietly trying not to make Fangs feel worse than he already did.
"You and flower had a drinking contest didn't you. You know the giant is the undefeated champion right." Ali chatted, rubbing his back until he had nothing left to bring up. Fangs sat back, resting his head against the wall behind him as he sipped the water.
"I swear to god I'm never falling for that trick again! That bastard nearly killed me, he better be just as bad as me right now." Fangs mumbled, his eyes closed to shield himself from the killer headache consuming him.
"He crazy tall, with dark hair and a neck tattoo? Scowls a lot?" Ali asked although she already knew the answer.
"Yeah, why?" Fangs asked curiously.
"We bumped into him this morning at the market. Besides holding a very angry scowl he seemed perfectly fine. What were your drinking last night anyway?" Ali asked handing him a damp cloth to wipe his face and a pair of sweat pants and white vest.
"Vodka and Silver tequila. Why?" Fangs replied slowly getting to his feet with the help of Ali.
"That’s why he's fine dummy." Ali rolled her eyes at the boys gullible attitude.
"You were doing vodka and tequila shots. He was doing water shots. They look very similar and he probably paid the bartender off. Honestly Fogarty I thought you gangsters were supposed to be hip to these tricks." Ali tutted helping Fangs stand steady as he threw on the sweat pants. Heading into the kitchen, being greeted by Izzy and Sam who were holding a glass off peculiar, green juice.
"Here you go Fangs, we made it to make you feel better. Painkillers are on the side." Sam chirped happy to be included in the sobering up of her older brother. Scowling a little when he ruffled her short, dark chocolate hair in thanks.
"Down it in one Fangs, tastes like horse piss but it's good stuff trust me." Ali insisted, handing him the glass and painkillers.
"Had much experience with that have you Ali cat?" Fangs teased downing the drink and painkillers in one. Ali was right it tasted awful but after about half an hour Fangs was feel much better.
Tumblr media
They had just finished the last of Fangs' English homework and half of the paper mache moulds when there was a loud knock at the door.
"It's open but we demand feeding upon entry!" Ali called, standing up and making her way to the door as it opened. Revealing a girl only a little bit taller than Ali, with incredible pink and brown hair.
"Hey Topaz, no Jug?" Ali asked letting her inside. The girl smiled dumping her bag on the kitchen side next to Fangs and pulling out her homework.
"Heard there was a study group and since Bughead are studying together I figure I'd come and join you guys, hope that's ok." Toni asked turning to look at Ali who was smiling as always.
"Absolutely, Fangs was just about to start his trig homework." Ali chirped handing over a notebook full of scribbles.
"These are my notes, they should help explain it. I'm going to help the girls design the motor for their moving solar system ok?" Toni and Fangs rolled their eyes nodding with an amused smirk.
"So, I saw Sweat Pea this morning. Looks like he got you again huh Fangs?" Toni teased reading through the notes Ali had given her.
"Sounds like he got had by the old water, Vodka trick." Ali chuckled.
"Can we mock me later please?" Fangs groaned resting his head on his book and closing his eyes.
"It's ok Fangs. At some point I'll challenge the grouch to a drinking contest. You can mock him then instead." Ali grinned winking at Izzy when her head flew up in excitement. Ali knew every trick in the book, her father had practically written it and taught her everything he knew.
The group spent the rest of the morning chatting and working hard. Toni and Fangs finished their homework rather quickly and moved to help with the paper mache whilst Ali showed Izzy and Sam how to build the water powered motor.
"Well guys I'd say its a good job done. Just leave it to dry and we can paint it tomorrow!" Ali declared cheerfully, standing back to admire their hard work. Her hands resting on her hips.
"Ali, I'm hungry can we go to Pops now?" Izzy whined, her stomach growling as she spoke.
"Ok Kiddo, grab your helmet. You guys coming? Foods on me." Ali offered looking at everyone's hungry faces as she snatched her helmet and keys.
"I've got my uncles truck for the day so I can give Fangs and Sam a lift. I don't think you should be driving just yet." Toni grinned dragging Fangs through the door with the assistance of Sam, who was pushing and shoving him from behind.
"Race you there?" Ali called lifting Izzy onto the back ok her bike. Toni snorted at the offer shaking her head.
"Do I look stupid to you? There's no way I'd win against you on that beast!" She called jumping into her truck and waiting for Fangs to climb in after Sam.
"Fair point. See you there!" Ali called before speeding away. Izzy clinging tightly to her sisters waist laughing as they hit a straight stretch of road perfect for reaching top speed.
Tumblr media
After enjoying a big lunch at Pops, Toni and Fangs took Sam back to the trailer before heading to the Wyrm to pick up Jughead and Sweet Pea. Whilst Ali and Izzy made their way to the quarry to start setting up. Izzy lit a fire in the large metal drum at the centre of several old sofas and huge log, whilst Ali filled up the water balloons, placing piles of them in strategic places around the fire pit. Her music played cheerfully in the background as the girls danced as they worked.
They had just finished filling up the last of the balloons and were making sure the towels were safely tucked away by the bike, where they wouldn't get wet. When they heard the familiar grumble of Toni's truck. Ali and Izzy grabbed a water balloon each before standing side by side on one of the logs surrounding the fire. Water balloons safely hidden behind their backs.
Toni and Fangs made their way over to the girls, closely followed by an overly serious Jughead and Scowling Sweet Pea. Ali grinned at Fangs as he stopped on the log opposite her. Toni made her way over to stand by Ali and Izzy. Secretly accepting the water balloon Izzy handed her from behind, being careful not to let Fangs see. They then waited for the other 2 to join Fangs before Ali spoke.
"Hey Jug, Fangs, Flower." She acknowledged with a mischievous grin, putting Jughead on edge.
"I don't like that look. Fangs why is she looking at us like that!" He said nervously sceptical, flinching when Ali's eyebrow twitched daringly.
"In my defence Jones, I tried. I really did." Fangs defended, looking at his friend apologetically.
"Who is this Northsider and why is she here?" Sweet Pea questioned giving Ali a disgusted scowl making Toni chuckle a bit. His scowl was different from his usual northside hatred glare.
"I, my dear flower," Ali replied sweetly, stepping forward and tilting her head to the side innocently. Making Fangs and Jughead gulp. They didn't like where this was going.
"I’m the girl that’s going to get You wet." She grinned sweetly, before launching a large water balloon at Sweet Pea's face and diving behind the log she had jumped off. His face fell in horror as the ice-cold water collided with his chiselled cheek bones.
"IT'S GIRLS V BOYS! THIS MEANS WAR!" Izzy and Toni screamed launching their water balloons at the guys before running to grab more ammunition and take cover.
"Winner is the team that stays driest. Game finishes when we run out of balloons!" Ali yelled throwing another balloon at Sweet Pea who was pissed and determined to get revenge on the Northsider that had the audacity to attack him like that.
The game went on for a while, each team using different tactics. Whilst the boys went for the panicked maniac approach. The girls decided to trap them. Tricking the boys into a false sense of security with a few poorly aimed throws. Making the guys think they had the upper hand. Moving in to strike a tree they thought the girls had huddled behind only to find nothing but a large X on the ground.
"X MARKS THE SPOT DUMMIES" Ali called from above them. She had scurried up the tree carrying a bag full of water balloons with Izzy and Toni placed strategically behind the trees surrounding the mark waiting for the signal. The girls immediately opened fire on the guys as they stood defence less, hopelessly trying to fight back. But resistance was futile. Especially after Ali tipped the large bag of balloons over them from above. Soaking them from head to toe.
"Told you I'd get you wet!" Ali teased, grinning smugly from the branch she was perched on.
"OK Ali. You win!" Jughead called trying to stifle a laugh. Ringing out his hat and shaking out the water from his hair. Ali grinned victoriously as she climbed back down the now very slippery tree trunk, her foot slipping at the last step sending her flying backwards. She had just enough time to throw her legs back, pushing her way through the damp air in a recovery back flip. Her feet landing solidly between Fangs and Jughead. After several seconds of laughing at Ali's near miss with the ground, the group made their way back over to the fire throwing a few more logs on to build up the flames. Laughing and joking about the battle they had just fought.
"It goes without saying, girls are definitely better than boys!" Toni stated handing out towels, making Izzy giggle.
"Ali pulled a Lara Croft on them!" Izzy squeaked happily, holding her tummy as a giggle fit took a hold of her. Pushing her on her side almost making her fall off the log she was sat on. But just as she was about to roll off, a large hand grabbed her, pulling her back up to safety. Sweet Pea chuckled as he looked down at the little girl still curled up in a raging fit of gut busting laughter. Wrapping a large muscular arm around her to hold her steady.
After a few minutes of everyone laughing at Izzy's uncontrollable giggles, the group managed to calm down, as did Izzy's giggles. Though she still had the occasional chuckle slip through. Ali chuckled at her little sisters innocence as she went to grab the food she had bought earlier. Placing a box of goodies in front of the group.
"Told you she'd help you find your smile!" Izzy murmured looking up at Sweet Pea who had been watching Ali as the group laughed and chatted. A small grin tweaking at the corners of his chapped lips.
"Shush you and grab me a s’more." He replied warmly. Sending Izzy over to grab them both a s’more and a sandwich each. Ali looked at the handfuls of food in Izzy's arms, moving her gaze to Sweet Pea who was sat beside Fangs. An Izzy sized gap between them.
"You slave driver! Did you just send poor, frozen little Izzy over to grab Your food?" Ali accused playfully, chuckling at Izzy when she nodded her head happily before shuffling back over to her cosy spot between the two gangsters.
"I'm helping, Ali!" Izzy defended with a proud grin as Fangs wrapped her back up in a large purple towel.
Tumblr media
The group sat there until it was too dark and cold to stay any longer. They silently packed everything away before heading to the Whyte Wyrm. Izzy rode in the truck with Toni and Fangs so she wouldn't freeze to death on the back of Ali's bike. Forcing Sweet Pea to ride with Ali on her bike and Jughead, who refused to ride with Ali ever again, managed to squeeze inside Toni's truck after being dragged in by Izzy.
"Not too bad for Northsider's are they?" Jughead teased Sweet Pea as they followed her inside the dimly lit bar.
"They're ok I guess," He shrugged, not letting Jughead know he was right.
"Izzy's funny, annoying but tolerable." He grumbled waving to the bar tender and ordering a round of beers for the guys.
"You're just upset 'cos the kids more perceptive than you are." Fangs interjected grabbing his beer and leaning against the bar. Smirking at his friend.
"Hey Hog-Eye, can you tell mum we're here and can we get 2 ginger beers please. Its a school night and Izzy's here." Ali greeted cheerfully, her smile brighter than ever as she accepted the drinks handed to her.
"Drinks on the house kid. You and your mum do enough for us and don't think I haven't noticed the discounts you've been giving the Serpents." Hog Eye insisted, waving away the money Ali had pulled out.
"Hey what about me?!" Izzy asked looking a little upset peering over the edge of the bar on her tiptoes.
"Sorry kiddo almost forgot about your handy work with a paint brush." Hog eye apologized leaning over to ruffle her hair a little.
"Come on Izzy, lets see if the guys are brave enough to play us at pool. Thanks Hog-Eye!" Ali smiled guiding her little sister towards the pool table on the other side of the room.
"Hey Fangs, make sure she stays out of trouble. You know what she's like." Hog-Eye ordered nodding his head towards Ali and Izzy who were setting up the pool table.
"Come on Sweet Pea. Lets show these Northsiders how to play properly." He nudged, before making his way over. "Fancy a game? Girls V Boys rematch?" He asked jumping on a nearby stool.
"That's hardly fair Fangs." Ali answered grabbing a stick from the corner and handing it to Izzy.
"Worried you're going to lose? Don't worry we'll go easy on you Northsiders." Sweet Pea mocked folding his arms, a smug grin plastered on his face. Izzy and Fangs rolled their eyes at his arrogance as Ali stepped forwards, almost squaring up to the 6'3 giant in front of her.
"On the contrary my darling," Ali's voice sickeningly sweet as was the innocent expression that washed over her face. "It's hardly fair because Izzy has more talent in her little finger than you do in your entire body." Ali teased wiggling her little finger at him.
"Bring it Northsider. 50 bucks says me, and Fangs win." Sweet Pea challenged stepping closer and looking down at Ali who was considerably shorter than him.
"This is getting intense. You could cut the sexual tension in here with a knife." Izzy whispered to Fangs, kneeling up on her stool and leaning forwards to rest her elbows on the table as they watched.
"I know." Fangs agreed before whipping round in shock at Izzy's comment,
"Isabelle Masters watch your language! You shouldn't know about things like that at your age!" He scolded, making Izzy scowl at him.
"Dude I'm 8 not 2!" Izzy scoffed sticking her tongue out at him making him laugh.
"Oh god they're shaking hands, you two are in for it now she's got that look again." She warned sitting up as her sister approached.
"Boy scout over here put 50 bucks on them winning. Fancy earning 50 bucks Izzy?" Ali questioned sarcastically. Izzy grinned nodding her head, her blonde plait falling over her shoulder as she jumped down from stool dragging it into position to start the game.
"Said Izzy could break. Give them a fair chance." Sweet Pea told Fangs as the little girl took her position. Fangs looked at his friend in horror.
"You suggested it or were coerced?" Fangs demanded under his breath making his friend look at him dumb founded.
"What’s the difference?" He shrugged just as Izzy took her shot sending the balls flying across the table potting a red ball and a yellow ball. "Actually, don't answer that."
"Looks like you're stripes. Fitting really considering you're about to get whipped." Ali mocked watching as Izzy took her second shot moving a striped ball away from its original spot, making it difficult for the Boy's to pot anything.
"Games only just begun Ali Cat. Plenty of time to kick your ass." Fangs sneered back before taking his shot, hitting his target but missing the shot. Ali shook her head, pouting sarcastically at him as he hung his head down in annoyance, avoiding the smug twinkle growing in the oppositions eyes.
"Maybe next time sugar plum." Ali teased moving round the table to stand next to Sweet Pea in the far corner. Bending over the table to line up her shot sticking her ass out a little more than necessary. Grazing the side of his thigh as she raised the end of her stick to take her shot. Making him suck in a sharp breath of air. Ali smirked taking her shot and potting another ball. Standing straight, she turned to look at Sweet Pea who was gripping the stick in his hands so tight, his knuckles were turning white. The muscles in his jaw showing through as he clenched his jaw even more. She fluttered her big blue eyes at him, placing a friendly hand on his biceps and smiling brightly.
"Sorry did I get you then?" She asked winking at him before moving round to take her second shot.
"Looks like the kids are playing nicely together." Jughead observed as he and Toni watched from the bar.
"Which kids are you watching?" Toni snorted giving him a concerned side eye glance.
"From what I can see, this game is big ball of passive aggression. Looks like Pea's met his match too. If he grips that stick anymore, hes going to be replacing it." Toni commented looking over at Jughead.
"You think there's something there don't you." Jughead proposed looking at the glint in Toni's eyes.
"All I'm saying is that Northsider has managed to get away with a lot more than most." Toni responded taking a swig of her beer. "And they've only just met."
"Yeah because Izzy's here. Sweet Pea may be a hot head but he's not a monster. He wouldn't scare an innocent kid like Izzy." Jughead debated, pointing to Izzy and Sweet Pea who had just shared a high ten when she won the game potting the final ball. "See, I rest my case."
"Ok Jughead 20 bucks says I'm right. If there isn't some obvious flirting between them, you win. If there is, you owe me 20 bucks and be my slave for a day of my choosing. Deal?" Toni offered turning to Jughead and holding out her hand for him to shake to seal the deal.
"Fine. But if I win, I want my 20 bucks and you're my slave for a day of MY choosing." Jughead bargained shaking Toni's hand in agreement.
"30 bucks says they remain completely oblivious to their feelings." Hog-Eye interjected, leaning beside Jughead cleaning a glass as he watched the group set up another match. This time Fangs and Ali versus Izzy and Sweet Pea.
"That's an obvious bet Hog-Eye. The question is for how long. My money says maximum 2 months. They're bound to notice eventually." Toni judges, looking over at Hog-Eye for his opinion.
"No way. Ali is the most oblivious person ever. I say Sweet Pea notices before she does, but it takes him at least 3 months before he does." Hog Eye predicts looking to Toni and holding his hand out to seal the deal. "What do you say?"
"Alright Hog-Eye, you're on!" She agrees shaking hands with the older Serpent.

Raindrops (an angel cried) part2
Tumblr media
2 weeks. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve last seen Peter. I’ve done everything in my power to avoid seeing him anywhere I go, including school. Now I take the long way to class even if it means I’m late just to not have to see his face.
My friends think I’m being extra for avoiding him, but why wouldn’t I? He’s done nothing but bring hurt and pain to my life since we’ve broken up and it’s annoying.
Listening to the rain outside my window with my sad playlist on shuffle made me feel even sadder than I was.
When raindrops fell
Down from the sky
The day you left me
And angel cried
Oh, she cried
An angel cried
She cried
It’s kind of ironic to hear Ariana Grande serenade me about exactly what I’m feeling. For the longest time I thought Peter and I’s relationship was heaven sent. Everything was too good to be true, and obviously a part of me believed that we wouldn’t last forever, I knew we would eventually breakup but I didn’t think it would be him leaving me for another girl.
It’s been almost a month since Peter has broken up with me and honestly I need to get over him because he’s obviously gotten over me.
~
The next morning I had the house all to myself, so I decided to go through my things and throw away anything I no longer needed or used.
After a few hours I started to get hungry and ordered a pizza since my family still wasn’t back and probably wouldn’t be back for a while. 45 minutes later the doorbell rang and I ran to get my money to pay.
“Hold on! I’m coming!” I yelled after another ring. When I opened the door I was disappointed to see it wasn’t the pizza delivery guy but instead Peter Kavinsky.
“Can we talk?” He didn’t look so good. Like he hasn’t slept in days. His once bright and beautiful hazel eyes, were now dull with bags underneath.
“I don’t have time for this Peter.”
“Just hear me out. Please?” He begged.
“Why should I listen to anything you have to say? Why do you keep coming back? Stop coming back, go away.” By this time I was fuming. Every time I think I’m making progress with getting over him, he pops up again wanting to “talk”.
“I haven’t slept in days Y/N, I can’t eat, and I know that’s not necessarily your problem and I know we broke up a while ago but I can’t stop thinking about the night of the party or the day we broke up. And I know it was a while ago but you have to know I’m sorry. Truly I’m sorry. If I could take back everything I would. I still lo-“
“Stop Peter. Where’s Lara Jean? Does she even know your here, confessing your undying love for me? I mean she is your girlfriend right?”
So many questions. None of which Peter had the answers to apparently because I still have yet get an answer from him. I’ll never understand the reason for glorifying relationships in our teenage years, it’s stressful.
“I guess not. I don’t want to keep doing this with you Peter, it’s stressful and draining. I have more important things to worry about like where my pizza is that ordered almost more than and hour ago. Not whether what you feel is genuine or because you’ve lost me.”
I was more than ready for this conversation to be over because the more I looked at Peter’s face the more I wanted to take him back and forgive him for everything he’s ever done. But I can’t keep putting myself through this, it’s not good for either of us.
“I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done to you and I do love you Y/N. And not just because I know you’re done with me or because I feel guilty for leaving you for Lara Jean. But because I don’t feel what I felt you with Lara Jean. She doesn’t make me feel what I felt for you. You lit this fire inside of me and she doesn’t,” he walked up to me and put his face in my neck, he knew exactly what spot to kiss to light me up. “Please forgive me. I promise to make it up to you, anyway you want.”
“I do forgive you Peter, I have for a while now. Not for you but for me, I’ll never to get to move on and live my life the way I want to if I don’t. Now I want you to leave and go find Lara Jean and tell her everything you’ve told me because she doesn’t deserve to be strung along loving someone that doesn’t love her back. It’s unfair. Letting you go was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do because I loved you, but I love myself more. And now I’m going to walk away and so are you and we’re never going to look back.”
I think Peter finally started to realize what we have is toxic at this point because he muttered a soft ‘ok’ and kissed me on my forehead before getting in his car and driving away. It’s better this way with no fights and arguments about continuing what we’ve had. I’m glad that he understands that.
Turning around to go back inside I heard a car pull up. “Peter we really don’t have time for this. I thought we went over th- oh. Where’ve you been?” My pizza was finally here. “I got lost on the way here. Sorry.” I rolled my eyes, “Well it’s been longer than an hour and I’m not paying for this. Plus you forgot my Pepsi. But um thanks for getting it here hot I guess.” I turned around and walked up my front porch to my front door.
“Do I at least get a tip?”
“A tip?! Could you have brought my food on time? Exactly, have a good night.” I finally made it inside my house and sat on my couch with my pizza, Netflix opened and a bottle of my moms good wine because I was going to need it.
—————
This is looooooong overdue but it’s here. Don’t be mad at me. I think I’m going to make this into an actual book in wattpad simply because there’s not enough background on these characters and I think it will be fun. So be on the lookout for that.

Chapter 51 Part One
Tumblr media
A/N: Hellooooo! I know it’s been a few months since I last updated this story so I apologize for that! I hope this chapter makes up for this!
Tumblr media
“Babe?” A set of gentle lips pressed down onto Addy’s forehead pulling her out of a deep slumber. Releasing a gentle moan, Addy’s eyes blinked open to find Harry staring down at her with an adorable smile spreading his lips, trying to contain his excitement.
“We are landing soon.” His hand rubbed against Addy’s leg as she tiredly rested her head on the prince’s shoulder. Addy’s green eyes scanned around the plane seeing all of their friends up and chatting excitedly as they were about to reach their destination.
Harry and Addy along with their friends, Mel and Tom, Skippy and Lara and Guy and Adrianna decided to take a vacation over their Christmas holiday to Croatia for the new year celebrations. It was a welcomed trip away from London where they all could enjoy some time together in the hot Croatian sun.
A quiet Addy peaked up at her boyfriend with a smile. “What?”
“Thank you for taking me on this trip, Henry.” Addy leaned in and placed her lips softly against the prince’s that lingered.
“You two get a room already!” Tom yelled from across the aisle making Harry and Addy break apart to turn and stare at him.
“Oh shut up, Tom. You and Mel were going at it like monkeys earlier.” Addy stifled her laughter seeing Tom’s surprised reaction. “Yeah, weren’t as subtle as you thought.” Harry muttered with a light giggle.
Adalyn peered out the window of the vehicle while holding tightly onto Harry’s hand. She had not let go of it since the moment the plane had landed. Harry had not disclosed the full details of their vacation to Adalyn, only the fact that they were going to Croatia for a few days and advised her on a few things to pack. Little did she know, she was in for a big surprise, as were all of his friends and their significant others.
Their range rover pulled up to a harbor coming to a rolling stop. A confused Addy turned to lock eyes with Harry questioningly. “Where are we going?”
A simple shake of the head gave Addy her reply. Harry was still not going to tell her. The prince hopped out of the vehicle and grabbed both of their bags. “I can carry mine.” Addy grabbed the handle, but was quickly scolded by the prince.
“No way!” Harry gently pushed Addy’s hand away. “I am not letting my girl carry her bag when I am perfectly capable of doing so.” Addy smiled adoring up at Harry while she rubbed up and down his back that signalled her appreciation.
“Thank you.” She pecked him on the cheek as she watched his smile spread wider.
Melanie came up behind Addy and grabbed her arm. “Come on! Let’s go!” She pulled Addy away from the prince. “I cannot believe we allowed these guys to plan a trip…” Mel leaned in and whispered to Addy. “I swear to god I will kill them all if we are going on a stupid fishing trip with them.”
Addy glanced back over her shoulder to make sure that Harry was right behind her. “I don’t think they are that stupid… or are they?”
Mel’s eyes darted towards Addy’s, locking in their gaze. “Ok… maybe it’s possible.” They both dissolved into a fit of giggles as they walked along the wooden path and turned the corner. Melanie nearly squealed deafening Addy’s ear when she saw a yacht waiting for them as they rounded the corner.
“Is that for us!?” She ran back to Tom practically dancing around him. While Addy had stopped dead in her tracks making Harry catch up to her. Taking in the view of the magnificent yacht, she felt extremely uncomfortable knowing how much this would have costed for Harry.
“Is it not big enough?” Harry could sense the uneasiness evaporating from within his girlfriend as he tried to make light of the situation.
“It’s too much, Harry.” Addy crossed her arms defensively without an ounce of laughter.
“It’s not really that much.” He tried to convince Adalyn that it was no nig deal at all. Harry had already anticipated this reaction from Addy.
“I can’t let you pay for all of this.” Addy shook her head slowly as she absentmindedly played with the necklace that Harry had given her. The rest of the group had walked off ahead of them nearly running onto the yacht. Dropping the bags down, Harry released a deep sigh.
“I’m not like them Harry…” Addy confessed. “Like your ex’s.” She turned to stare deeply into his blue eyes. “I can’t pay for these lavish holidays or expensive clothes and jewelry or –”
“Stop it!” Harry reached out and placed his hands on either side of Adalyn. “I am not asking you to be like that, nor have I ever.” His deep blue eyes were sincere.
“But, I can’t let you pay for all of it either.” Her voice cracked as she turned her head away feeling ashamed. “And I can’t keep affording it, and when I can’t, you pay and that is not fair to you, Henry…” She stared off into his blue eyes.
The prince released a deep sigh. He understood where Addy was coming from, but that was why he offered to foot the bill. “I did not take you here to make you more stressed out. You have been off work for nearly three months now and I know things are getting tougher for you.” Harry stepped closer to Adalyn. “I wanted this to be about us and our friends. We need this…. we need this getaway.” He sighed. “All I want in return is to see a smile on that pretty little face. To me that is worth more than anything on this trip. To see that gorgeous smile of yours that I rarely get to see now.”
Addy angled her head staring up at him sweetly. The wrinkles that had formed across her forehead had softened. “Ok… fine.” Addy closed in the distance between them and wrapped her hands around Harry’s neck. “But one day, I am going to take you somewhere, deal?”
“Deal.” Harry bent his head down and pressed his lips against Addy’s forehead.
“Now let’s get going before they think they can steal our room.” Harry was quick to grab their bags and lead Addy aboard the yacht.
“How’s the view?” Addy had escaped outside to the balcony that led from their suite to take in the fresh ocean breeze as they sailed along the water. Her eyes were glued ahead as she watched the city they embarked from slowly fading in the distant horizon as a sea of blue created more distance between.
Addy glanced back over her shoulder and smiled. “It’s beautiful.” She beamed as her head swiveled back out towards the ocean. Hearing a pair of footsteps behind her, Addy felt Harry wrap his arms around her tightly.
“Mmm, you are right. It is beautiful.” Harry released a deep chuckle. Addy’s hand slid down Harry’s arms resting her hands on top of his giving them a squeeze as silence flooded between them.
“What are you thinking right now?” Harry’s soft voice broke through her thoughts.
“You.” Addy confessed.
“Me?” Harry questioned.
“Just thinking of that night we met…” A smile crept up on Addy’s lips.
“I remember.” Harry spoke. “You were wearing a burgundy dress and your hair was down.” Addy listened in silence as the memory that had been playing in her mind was coming to light with every passing word of Harry’s. “I ran into you and nearly sent you to the floor.”
“But you caught me.” Addy interjected and turned her body around to face him still within the confines of his arms. A pair of blue eyes were staring back into her green orbs intensely. “Harry?”
“Yes, love?” Harry could see a fire burning in her eyes.
“Do you regret any of it?” Addy’s green eyes averted away from his stare.
“Regret you?” Harry asked with confusion until a slight nod of his girlfriend’s head nearly punched him in the gut. “Not for a second.” He watched as Addy remained silent. “Do you? Where is this all coming from?” Harry gently grabbed her chin and turned Addy’s head to make her look at him.
“It’s been what…  eight months since we have been together and so much has already happened.” Her voice was quiet. “Some days I wonder what life would be like if I hadn’t met you.” Addy winced at the mere thought of it. “But, looking back now after everything… I wouldn’t want a day to go by without being with you. I would go through it all again if it meant I got to have you in my life.”
“Is this about me going back to Suffolk?” Harry cupped Addy’s cheeks tenderly.
“You going back… me going back to work… being on my own.” Addy shook her head with tightly closed eyes.
“I thought that was what you wanted, Adalyn?” A confused Harry massaged his thumb into the warm flesh of her cheek.
A set of green eyes opened staring right into the depths of him. “What I want is to be normal again.” Addy breathed in deeply. “I don’t want people tiptoeing around me. I don’t want you or my family always worried about every little thing I do like I am going to vanish or something.”
Harry held his tongue. But, I almost did lose you Addy. You almost vanished from my life. He thought to himself.
“I want to have fun again, Harry.” Addy rested her forehead against Harry’s. “Like that day we spent on the farm together….”
“Mmmm that was fun.” Harry smirked crookedly.
“I am just tired of bad things happening to us and want to focus on the good things. Like this trip and us!” Addy slowly tossed her head back while holding onto Harry’s hips.
“Well it is almost a new year. We can start fresh. Leave all the bad shit that has happened in the past.” He smiled down lovingly at Adalyn. “Except for meeting you. That was the best day of my life.”
“Ooh stop it.” Addy blushed at his words.
“It’s true.” Harry whispered across her lips as he leant down to place a kiss on top of them. “Don’t ever forget that.”
“I won’t.” Addy stood up and pressed her lips one more time to Harry’s. “We should go find our friends, shouldn’t we?”
“I guess so…” Harry growled and pulled his lips reluctantly off of Addy’s.
The yacht’s captain and crew were introduced to their group and were made aware of the schedule of stops for the next few days. The excitement of the group was palpable as if they all needed this mini vacation and getaway from the pressures of their daily lives.
The guys were diving into their beers as the girls got changed into their swimsuits. Today would be spent on the yacht with a chance to use the water sport toys as they continued onto their next destination.
Melanie and Adrianna were the first to appear as they headed straight to the bar for a drink. Tom could not keep his eyes off of Mel, checking her out in her bikini.
“Damn, I am a lucky man.” He stood up and went directly over to his girlfriend leaving the guys behind.
“He’s starting to sound whipped like you Harry.” Skippy stuck out his tongue at Harry seeing the glare in his eyes.
“I am not whipped, Skippy.” Harry took a swig of his beer. “Not even remotely.”
“I am.” Guy tossed his head back in laughter at his own confession while his friends joined in with his laughter.
“We all knew that, Guy.” Harry spoke out the obvious.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught Adalyn walking down the stairs and did a double take. His mouth nearly dropped to the floor in surprise at how sexy his girlfriend was standing there in a green bikini that accentuated all of her curves in just the right areas.
“Holy hell.” Harry whispered under his breath, but he swore Addy heard him as she locked eyes with him in that very second. She shyly looked away from him seeing how he was devouring her with his eyes.
Addy was leaning up against the bar waiting to place her drink order when she felt a hand pressed on the small of her back. Knowing by the immediate touch it was her man, she leaned into him.
“You look so sexy.” Harry whispered into Addy’s ear as he gently rubbed over the exposed skin on her back.
“Thank you, love.” Addy looked up at her boyfriend. “Why don’t you get me a drink then and I will meet you by the hot tub.” Without another word she left Harry behind in a daze knowing that his eyes watched her backside as she walked away from him.
Walking by Skippy and Guy she quickly leaned in and said. “Harry is whipped whether he thinks so or not.” Skippy was nearly keeled over roaring with laughter that gained Harry’s attention as he caught Adalyn walking away from his friends.
“I cannot wait for the water fall hike! It is going to be so amazing!” Mel gushed as she stumbled and nearly spilled her drink over everyone in the hot tub. The yacht was sailing by the picturesque coastal town of Baska, attracting everyone’s eyes as the clear blue water along the old buildings captivated them.
Addy was mesmerized by the view that was in front of her. She felt Harry come up beside her as he kissed her shoulder gently. “Why don’t you go get dressed so we can explore a little bit?” His words caused Addy to turn her attention to him.
“We get to go there?” Addy beamed with excitement.
“Yeah! Let’s hurry so we don’t waste any time!” Harry grabbed her hand and helped his girlfriend climb out of the hot tub.
Harry could barely take his eyes off of Addy in the summery dress that she had put on as they embarked off the yacht. A pastel colored floral skirt was perfectly matched with a white off the shoulder top that hinted at her breasts. Her brunette hair was loosely pulled back into a classy bun, but what caught his eyes the most was the necklace he had given her that Addy kept on nearly everywhere she went. He would often find her playing with it when she thought he wasn’t looking.
“Hey!” Harry turned to look back over his shoulder to look behind at the group. “We have dinner reservations at 730pm. Don’t be late!”
“Are we going to split up or stay together?” Mel asked the group as they continued to walk along the harbour front boardwalk.
“What do you wanna do?” Addy whispered to Harry as they locked in each other’s eyes.
“I want you to myself for a little while.” Harry lifted his arm and wrapped it around his girlfriend’s shoulders as they broke apart from the rest of the group finding their own adventure in the small Croatian town.
“Hey! Where are you two heading off to?!” Tom yelled after them.
“Nowhere!” Harry snickered before grabbing Addy’s hand and nearly running off with her, laughing away as they ditched the rest of the group.
The couple walked around the small town of Baska and entered little shops along their way. People kept pulling them into their shop and taught them what life was like in the town as they showed them what they had made to sell in their sea-side shops.
Harry spotted Addy eying a painting that she kept going back to look at. It was of a couple sitting together on the beach looking across over the ocean done in a watercolour base. Something in it was drawing Addy to it, but each time she went back to it, she did not pick it up.
“See anything you like?” Harry approached Addy as ran her hands through the soft material of a hand made scarf.
She simply shook her head. “No…” But her eyes trailed back towards the painting for a few seconds before fully answering. “Not exactly.” Addy looked up at Harry. “I heard there is a market a few streets down. Do you want to go there?”
“Yeah, wherever you want to go.” Harry nodded while pulling out his wallet. “You thirsty? It’s so hot out here. Why don’t you grab us a few drinks before we go? I think I saw a stand just outside the door. I want to ask this owner something.”
“I could use a drink!” Addy took a few bills from Harry. “Coke or water, love?”
“Water is fine. I will see you out there.” Harry internally smiled as his plan to distract Addy worked as he watched her leave the little store. He quickly approached the shop owner. “Do you paint these by yourself?”
“I do, sir.” He nodded happily.
“Could you paint one for me?” Harry took a few steps back and grabbed the painting Addy had her eyes on to show him. “Like this?” He showed him.
“Yes!” He nodded again. “I can paint for you and your wife. She has an eye for art!”
Harry smiled at the thought of the shop owner calling Addy his wife. “Maybe one day she will be.” He joked with the owner. “Can you do it tonight? We are leaving back to the yacht later tonight. I will make it worth your while.”
“Give me three hours? Pick it up here?” The owner smiled at the prince.
“That would be great! I can come back or have someone get it.” Harry was smiling from ear to ear hoping that Addy would like it.
“Water colour? Same exact picture but you two?” The owner confirmed with the prince through broken English.
Harry nodded and pulled out his phone to show him a picture of a selfie the two of them took earlier that afternoon. “Yes, like this.”
Harry looked towards the exit and knew he had to get going before Addy became suspicious. “How much?” He gave the man more that what he had asked for and headed out the door to find Addy walking back with two cold waters in her hand.
“Ready to go? I asked around and I think the market is around the corner over there.” Adalyn pointed out ahead of them while handing her boyfriend some water.
“Let’s go there?” Harry took a big drink as the cool water trailed down his throat.
“I feel like we have been doing what I want today though… what do you want to do?” A hint of concern was laced in Addy’s voice as she found Harry’s hand and started to walk towards the direction of the market.
“I am good with whatever as long as I get to do it with you.” Harry picked up her hand and kissed it softly. “I got my fun earlier with the jet ski!”
The couple had found the market and was amazed at all the unique little souvenirs and Croatian things the people from Baska had made to sell. They were simply having fun picking out little gifts for one another, the sillier the better.
Addy was nearly in tears after laughing so hard at Harry as he modelled an apparent traditional dress that men in Baska wore to ceremonies. He popped out his hip with a pouty lip making Addy dissolve into endless giggles.
“I will take it!” She dug through her purse despite protests from the prince not to, saying he would never wear it. “It’s not for you!” Addy leaned into him. “I personally think it would look great on Will!” A mischievous smile formed on her lips.
“I agree with you, love.” Harry pulled it off over his head and eyed it again while holding it up. “I think William will love it too!” The prince winked at Addy as she paid for it and put it into a small bag.
“We should get Kate something too!” Addy continued to walk along the vendors eying custom jewelry when she heard their names being called out.
Harry looked up and scanned the crowd becoming on guard as he did not recognize the voice that called their names. His eyes searched hard and landed on what he saw were paparazzi practically running towards them with their cameras in hand. How the hell did they find them here? The prince had told no one he did not trust about this vacation he had planned.
“Addy, let’s go.” Harry gripped her hand and started to lead her through the market as quickly as he could. His eyes fell back on the protection officer that had re-joined them after keeping a substantial distance between them as per Harry’s request.
Addy heard her name being called out as she looked back to see why Harry was in such a hurry to leave. A group of paps were hot on their heals as they weaved through the market stands. Her body became tense as she quickened her pace in order to keep up with Harry’s long strides.
“How did they find us?” Addy looked towards Harry who was wearing an angry expression with his brow furrowed and jaw clenched tightly.
“I don’t know. They are ruthless like I have always told you, Addy.” He spoke through pursed lips. His hand was still gripping Adalyn’s hard as his eyes scanned for the best way to get them out of there.
“HARRY! ADDY! COME ON SHOW US A LITTLE SOMETHING!”
“Harry you are going too fast, I can’t keep up.” Harry was nearly running, but Addy’s sandals were not exactly the practical type.
“You have too, love. Please try.” Harry’s voice was begging her to.
She gripped his hand tighter and gained his blue eyes turning back to check on her. A playful glint in Addy’s green eyes caused him to not look away. “Lose them, Henry.” The corner of her lips turned into a lighthearted grin.
“My pleasure.” Harry squeezed her hand tight, ensuring he had a good grip on it.
“Extra points if you lose your RPO too.” Addy giggled as the thrill of the run coursed through her.
“Extra points?” Harry’s eyebrow rose suggestively as his determination to please Adalyn turned the pursuit higher. He suddenly turned back on his heel and weaved them back through the same vendors they had just passed through after he noticed the paps having taken another route.
The prince travelled back towards the harbour front with Addy right by his side as they tried to ditch the paparazzi and his RPO. Addy glanced back over her shoulder seeing that the paps had were somehow gaining ground on them as their continual shouts of their name echoed from behind closer and closer. “Harry, they are getting closer!”
His eyes searched around, trying to find an escape route.  A devilish grin appeared on his lips once he spotted it. “Do you trust me?” Harry locked eyes with his girlfriend’s that held a mix of fear of the unknown and adventure from the chase circling in them.
“Always.” Their gaze lingered for a second longer.
“Don’t let go of me.” He tugged on her hand gently as they took often down towards the docks. Running through dock after dock of boats lining them, the prince spotted an older man preparing his boat to leave. Their footsteps echoed against the old wood that swayed over top of the water as their pace quickened.
Addy looked up to see exactly where Harry was taking her as adrenaline coursed through her to run faster along side him. “A boat?”
“Yes!” Harry smiled proudly of his plan. “Sir?!” He waved his free arm to gain attention of the man. “Start your boat, we will pay you well!”
The elderly man looked around and spotted the couple eagerly running down the dock being chased by people with cameras. He waved his arm to join them before he ran towards the controls as the engine of the boat roared to life. Harry glanced back over his shoulder. There may be enough distance between them and his RPO that he may actually lose everyone like Addy had asked him too.
Harry helped Addy get on the boat safely first as she stepped across a short wooden plank, letting go of his hand for the first time since the chase had started. The elderly man directed Harry in quickly untying the ropes that secured the boat onto the dock while making sure his girlfriend was safely seated at the front.
His girlfriend looked down the long row of the dock and saw them gaining ground as their voices became clearer. “Harry come on!” Addy stood up and walked towards the boat. “Get on!” She warned him and stuck out her hand for him to grasp.
The prince gave the boat a hard push to create some space between the boat and the dock in a last ditch effort to ensure no one would jump on. He grabbed Addy’s hand as she pulled him onto the boat with all the strength she had within her. His body crashed into her, making her nearly lose her footing with a light gasp.
Harry’s arm wrapped around her to secure Addy in place as her green eyes peaked up at him fondly. “You did it!” A set of green eyes were proudly smiling up at Harry.
“I did it for you, love.” He wanted to get lost in the depths of those green eyes again, but their names being shouted alerted him back to the reality of the situation at hand. The couple could hear the snaps of the cameras left in their wake as the boat successfully left the harbour.
Addy blindly searched for his hand, turning around to see the elderly man grinning at them ear to ear. “Hello!” She could not help but dissolve into a fit of breathless giggles as she tried to regain her breath from the long run.
“Thank you, sir. For helping us out.” Harry greeted the elderly man and introduced themselves. “This is my girlfriend, Addy.” He shook the man’s hand. “I’m Harry.”
“Welcome aboard my boat! The beautiful Josephine!” The man graciously welcomed them and offered them to sit and relax as he took them on a tour after they politely refused not to further waste his time.
“Please. I insist.” The man sat them down and gave each of them a traditional Croatian fruity drink. “I want to show you my beautiful country!”
Addy looked up at Harry to see if he wanted to stay on the boat and get a private tour from a local. “Do you want too? I think it will be fun.” She searched his blue eyes for an answer.
“I am in!” Harry smiled happily and lifted his arm for Addy to snuggle in closer. “I am happy I got my extra points.” The prince cheekily smiled down at Addy. “When do I get my reward?”
Addy tossed her head back with laughter and then breathed out a sigh. “Tonight…” She peaked up at Harry and bit down on her bottom lip, silently telling her boyfriend what his reward would be.
“Mmmm… in the hot tub?” Harry questioned with a suggestive eyebrow.
Addy simply nodded at the idea before turning her attention back to the elderly man who was telling them about the history of the town as they sailed along the coastal line.
Harry and Addy were all smiles only having eyes for one another as they walked hand in hand into Gallo, the restaurant they were to meet the rest of their group at after an afternoon of exploring. No member of the group missed seeing their gleeful smiles as they took the last few empty seats at the end of the table. The couple were a few minutes late having gotten back from their little private tour along by the local man who aided in their escape.
“What did you two get up to this afternoon?” Adriana leaned in towards Addy as Harry sat down beside Guy.
Addy glanced towards Harry unsure of what to say exactly so he stepped in and answered. “Well, we were exploring the little shops and markets when paps starting chasing us.” The whole table was now listening as they all formed shocked expressions.
“Seriously? All the way in Croatia?” Melissa’s expression softened as she looked across the table to see Addy’s smile fade and become quiet. She felt for Adalyn deeply. To have someone always wanting to photograph you and the lengths that they would go to just to get that one picture would certainly take its toll on her. Especially when she was meant to be on a stress free vacation that she desperately needed.
“Why?” Tom asked his friend.
“They only have one reason Tom.” Harry simply shrugged his reply before seeing Adalyn’s smile no longer there. All of his life he had hated the press for intruding on his personal life. All he was trying to do was to take his girlfriend on a vacation and he couldn’t even do that without them following them.
The prince nudged her leg gently underneath the table to subtly get Addy’s attention. Her green eyes lifted, locking in his gaze as he silently asked with his eyes if she was alright. A light nod with an attempted smile gave Harry his answer.
“But, then we escaped from them and got on a boat.” Addy’s smile re-appeared. “We got a tour from a local fishermen and he showed us around. He took us to a little hidden cove and it was amazing!”
“No way!” Mel wanted to hear more about it all.
“Some total James Bond shit.” Guy patted Harry on the back. “Wait… you even ditched your RPO?!”
Harry bit down on his bottom lip as a naughty glint appeared in his blue eyes. He was waiting for a phone call from his grandmother or father knowing he would get in shit for doing so. But, it was all worth it to spend some alone time with Addy on that little boat. “Yeah, waiting for the backlash as we speak.”
What Addy did not tell the group was the local man, Leo, actually took them back to his home on the coastal town where they met his wife, Josephine; the women whom he named his boat after. They had a lovely chat and were offered an assortment of traditional Croatian baking and a large selection of teas. There was something that Josephine told Harry as they were leaving their home to meet their friends. She told him something that he simply could not ignore as it felt like a foreseeable warning to him. “The eyes always tell their own story you know. They are the entry to the soul. She has a lot of fear behind her eyes that girl does. She hides that fear from you.”
“Harry?” Addy’s voice brought him back from the memory. “Want to share something with me?” He picked up the menu and quickly scanned through it.
“Yeah we could order two plates and share, love.” Harry winked at Addy. “You choose what you would like, I am good with whatever.”
“Are you sure?” Addy angled her head at Harry.
“Positive.” His gentle eyes reassured her.
The smile that grew on her lips was a sight he simply could not look away from. It was a smile that Harry rarely got to see since after the incident with Jake. He planned this trip with Guy all because he wanted Adalyn to remember what it was like to have a little fun and to relax without the pressure building up around her from all aspects of her life.
The press were at an ultimate high with their inquisitive nature about Adalyn as news of the kidnapping and desire to know how ‘Prince Harry’s girlfriend’ was coping with the aftermath. They even were getting braver asking about Addy during his official engagements to which he never gave a reply to validate anything. This caused Adalyn to want to close her self off from the outside world simply because she could not handle how the paparazzi shouted question after question about it to her.
Adalyn’s curator job at the Imperial War Museum were continually breathing down her neck about starting back up as projects sat uncompleted and were threatening to give all of her hard work she had done onto someone else. She confided in the prince shortly after his surprise visit to her grandparents farm that she was worried if she did not go back, that she would have no job to go back too. Adalyn questioned herself if she was ready too, but in the end that question did not matter as she could not give up her job. The plan was for Addy to start back up in the new year part time for the first month and then back to regular hours once she settled back in.
But, for the time being he would take that smile she was giving Harry knowing what was awaiting for him later in the hot tub that night.
To be continued….

Punk In The New Age: A Conversation with Ghostflower
Tumblr media
The Miami act offer a quick glimpse into their creative process and their glittering, post-punk sound.
West Palm Beach- The lights are low.
In the small, humble upstairs music loft that is Voltaire in West Palm Beach, there’s a veritable buzz going in the air. Rain is splashing lightly against the aged windows and if you blink, the room might be in monochrome.
There isn’t a more fitting place for Ghostflower to be performing tonight, and it’s because they make it so. The darkwave trio, led by Leaf Boehm (Lead Vocals/Synth), Andrey Ducuara (Guitar/Synth/Vocals) and Jake Lara (Bass/Synth/Vocals) seem to bring this haunting air with them, wherever they perform. Whether it be at last year’s esteemed iii Points music festival in Miami, or various venues around the state, it still remains. This intense build-up to a great thing, something that feels as palpable as Siouxsie and the Banshees at a London club, or Savages at Glastonbury. As Boehm walks over to the sound/lighting engineer just before the set and asks for the ambient lights to be gently turned down for their flood stage lights, you can see the care in the craft and it’s a part of what makes all the difference.
Ghostflower are part of the new wave, both in genre and literally, for the Florida music scene. Not just due to their sound, or their veritable power, but their humble and intense nature. We were able to send the trio a few questions, offering a glimpse into their creative process, and a temptation to view the band....
Your live performance is incredible, with a distinctive effort to not replicate but breathe life into that raw 1970's live edge. Do you perform with that in mind, or is it a by-product of the chemistry you all have?
Leaf Boehm- Definitely a result of our chemistry. We are all in love.
When was the band formed and was this sound always something you guys had in mind?
Jake Lara- The band as a concept was formed around 2016. We started playing out in late 2017.
Leaf- Andrey and I started with a general idea of what we wanted our sound to be. We were hoping to not be restricted to any genre.
How long have you all been playing music?
Leaf- We all grabbed guitars in our teen years but got more serious about it in our twenties.
What are some of the most major influences you all have, individually?
Jake- Animal Collective, John Maus, Broadcast
Andrey Ducuara- The rawness of Bob Dylan and early folk are what made me pick up a guitar. Post-Ok Computer Radiohead revolutionized my ideas of how organic sounding music can be made.
Leaf- Early Pink Floyd/ Syd Barrett inspired Jake and I early on. Post-bends Radiohead was another band that got me started as a creative. Early electronica like, Throbbing Gristle and Delia Derbyshire helped Andrey and I formulate a concept for Ghostflower. More individually, Swans, Jonny Greenwood, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Arto Lindsay, Bjork, Sonic Youth.
What are some of the more eclectic inspirations that might surprise some listeners?
Leaf- Justin Bieber 800% slower. I don't know if this is eclectic really but we listen to a lot of blues and folk, like, Skip James, Carter Family, Nick Drake
What feeling do you want people to feel after listening to your music?
Jake- I want the listener to forget that they are where they are
Tumblr media
Though Southern Florida is a large region, it still has an almost small town feel in each city. To bands in small towns, either in the US or other reaches of the world where resources might be scarce, what advice would you have for them?
Andrey- Branch out
Should the visual aspect of live performance be as important a component as the art of the performance itself?
Jake- Yes
Any plans for a new EP coming out and if so, can you say any details?
Leaf- Yes
Last question, we like to wrap it up with a bit of a challenging one. If you could use any lyric to describe yourselves individually, be it your own or another band's, what would it be?
Andrey- “Like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free”
Jake- “Your pets are gonna die”
Leaf- “If you close the door, the night could last forever”
-Jenelle DeGuzman

𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐈 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐔𝐋 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋 𝐁𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐊𝐀 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐒 !
i honestly can’t believe it’s been a year already. it has actually flown by. originally on my multi muse, moving amanda and jesse to their own blogs was the best decision and i’ve been so thankful i did ever since. if i’m being honest, the only reason why i made jesse a sideblog at all was because i was so in love with the url ( badbagelll ) that i couldn’t not. but it turned out better than i could’ve ever anticipated. i’m so grateful for all the wonderful writing partners i’ve been blessed to not only write with, but get to know out of character. all of you are such kind, strong, inspiring, and golden hearted human beings with such creative minds and exceptional talent. i often ask myself what on earth i did, and how i got so lucky to meet you all.
i am so incredibly honored to have the opportunity to bring the independent, strong, unfairly gorgeous, quick witted, badass, and beautifully flawed amanda rollins to life. and not only do i get the pleasure of writing amanda, but our precious bad bagel, jesse.
all in all, amanda @ sonny in that gif is me @ every single person who i write with, who has ever messaged me ooc, and anyone who simply follows this blog. i can honestly say that writing these two characters has been the highlight of my writing journey. i adore each and every one of you, and i look forward to another year. xoxo.
******* under the cut i’m going to be gushing over those of you who still have your blogs and have truly helped to make this past year 𝚎𝚡𝚌𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕 !
THE ELITE SQUAD.
@amaroed / dany ! writing nick and amanda with you has brought so much absolute joy into my life??? i’ve loved every single one of our threads and memes from them switching the sugar to salt at the precinct kitchenette to amanda becoming nick for halloween to nick trying to keep amanda awake after she caught a bullet to the side.  you capture nick so well, and your love for him and danny himself exudes every time you write him. it’s honestly so beautiful to see. after writing with you, i can honestly say that my love for nick amaro increased even more. you are such a talented writer, and i’m forever honored to write with you!
@battleincarnate / maddie ! maddie maddie maddie, my iconic, legendary cher stan.  i actually adore you so much i can’t even fully explain. from the first time i talked to you ooc, you just exuded genuine kindness, and were so chill and easy to talk to. i feel like that’s unfortunately super rare, so i just wanna thank you for that??? you’re such a rad friend, and i’m so lucky to have you!! ok as for muses go, i don’t even know where to start?? firstly, your writing is gorgeous and your ability to switch between muses like elliot stabler and ali dilaurentis is remarkable. secondly, what we’ve developed between elliot and amanda is truly one of my favorite relationships i’ve had the pleasure of establishing on this blog, even though we’ve never even gotten to see them together onscreen. i have loved every single thread we’ve ever done.  from the first thread we did where they first meet and they literally want to kill each other, to them arguing over who gets to drive on their first day as partners, to all the million and ten things we’ve discussed on discord like their hardcore car karaoke parties and the fact that amanda will ask elliot to walk her down the isle in any verse where she’s married. amanda may be one of the biggest pains in his ass, and elliot may be one of the biggest pains in hers, but they love each other sm it’s so precious. amanda is also so much like elliot it kills me, and the dynamic we’ve created is literal gold. the phrase like father, like daughter has never applied more. he’s the king and she’s the lionheart without a doubt!
@cabotiisms / claire ! like i told you over discord, your portrayal of alex made me love her even more which, i didn’t even think was possible. your grasp on alex’s character, her motives, the way her mind works, is so on point. your love and passion for doing right by alex is so obvious when you write her. now, the big and little sister dynamic we’ve created for alex and amanda makes me smile so much i can’t even explain. i live for alex trying to get amanda out of the messes she gets herself into aka saving her little sister from being ripped to shreds by mom, and in general just being the sister she deserves. the threads we have going right now are quite literally perfect, and i adore them.  and out of character? i love yelling at you about how dirty the svu writers did alex, and how dirty they’re currently doing amanda by bringing in cardio douche. but even more importantly, you are one of the most genuinely sweet people i’ve ever met. i adore you, and am so thankful we’re friends!
@drftwood / catie ! i don’t even know where to start. ok firstly, your ability to bring to life so many beautiful oc’s and occasional canon characters absolutely astounds me. you are so creative, all the ideas you come up with are so intriguing, and you have the ability to turn one small detail into an entire beautiful character so effortlessly. it’s so incredible. and this creativity so obviously carries into your writing. your writing is so fucking gorgeous i can’t even believe. every single character that we’ve ever written together has turned into such a beautiful relationship for amanda. chris, alex, and now jr? i mean, jr is such an important person in amanda’s canon now, and i can’t imagine altering her canon storyline in any other way, nor can i imagine anyone else taking on his role except for you. next, i can’t end this without saying how much i love talking to you ooc. like, from the minute we started talking when we started plotting amanda and alex, i knew we were gonna be friends. AND I WAS SO RIGHT. you have such a kind soul and such a big heart, you deserve all the happiness in the world. i am so lucky and proud to be able to call you a friend and ily!!
@etlegis / shep ! ok we literally started talking like 24 hours ago but i already adore you and your peter stone. it’s so obvious that you have his character down in your writing. it’s like i read your starter, and it felt like i was in an episode of svu. not only is your characterization of stone on point, but you are the GREATEST ooc. it was so easy to start talking to you, instafriends some may call it, and we just fell down a rollins/stone hole and i’m not even mad about it. you are such a gem in this community already and i’m so glad you’re here!!
@hellhaths / lara !  lara, i fucking adore you. like for real. i could tell from the second we started talking ooc that we were going to be friends. and i’m proud to say i was very right. you are such an exceptional writer, i can’t properly explain. you put so much into every character you write, and it truly amazes me. now, i think we both know i have to talk about your olivia ‘ squad mom ’ benson because …. wow. from the first introduction to your writing, the first thought i had was ‘ she’s literally olivia benson.’ and that first thread we did with amanda asking olivia about elliot while she was trying to figure out the situation with nick, and not only did it wreck my heart, but it was the beginning of the most legendary olivia / amanda dynamic i could’ve ever asked for. SHE’S LITERALLY HER MOTHER. liv arguing with amanda to stop playing angry birds because it kills her phone battery, confining amanda to desk duty when she does something dumb, taking away amanda’s keys …. the list is literally endless. despite how bratty liv’s dorter gets, we all know she still loves her.  listen, you understand the complexities of liv so well, it absolutely astounds me. with twenty seasons of evolution to work with, you incorporate all of it so beautifully. you have her voice and mannerisms down to a tee, and i am so honored to write with you and call you a friend. i’m sending you all the love and light in the world right now, and just know i’m here for you always.
@moontide / angie ! girl, your amanda is so important to my jesse idk if i can even properly put it into words. when i first started writing jesse, i had no idea what type of interactions i would get. truthfully, i thought nobody would show any interest whatsoever and she would just be another blog that faded away. WHAT I NEVER IMAGINED IS WHAT I’VE WRITTEN WITH YOU. the amanda/jesse dynamic we’ve created is so complex and beautiful, and i love it so much. every single heart breaking thread and verse we’ve started or discussed, i love. jesse is so her mama’s daughter, and being able to have those interactions means so much to me, i just have to say thank you. and your amanda? so fantastic. i absolutely love the life you bring to her, and i’m so so so honored to write with you. and remember, even when she’s being a brat, jesse loves her mama more than anything.
@o188 / sunny ! holy shit!!! ok so, i need to start by telling you how big of a part you played in me giving amanda her own blog in the first place. when i found your blog and read your writing, i was, for the lack of a better word, s h o o k. to this day, i am still astounded anytime i read one of your replies, because when you write sonny, you become sonny carisi. from writing his dialogue, to his mannerisms, it’s perfection. and you yourself as a human being???? you’re actually golden and ily. you welcomed me into this community with so much warmth and love and i can never thank you enough!! ok, so now for muses. let me just start with the jesse/sonny dynamic. WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE SOMETHING SO PURE???? sonny carisi is the Best Dad, and jesse loves him endlessly, ok? alright, now for sonny and amanda.  listen, i can’t even accurately explain how much my amanda loves your sonny. she would quite literally try and catch a falling star for him if he asked. writing amanda so open and trusting whenever she’s with him is so freakin’ beautiful, okay?? i’ve adored every single thread and meme we’ve ever started with them, from amanda telling him she’s pregnant with g, to the morning after, to post book of esther. their dynamic is so freakin’ important and what we’ve created with them is truly one of my favorite relationships i’ve ever written. oh, and writing them as parents of their precious baby girls?? quite literally makes my heart grow ten sizes. they are so soft, so beautiful, and i am both honored and grateful to have the opportunity to write that with you!!
@painbled / peaches ! cracks knuckles alright here goes!! HI I FREAKING LOVE YOU. you are one of the most genuine human beings i’ve met on here, and i am forever grateful that i chose to write topanga way back when. there was a chunk of time where we fell out of contact, but the second we started talking again, it was like NO TIME AT ALL HAD PASSED. that’s a true testament to our friendship, and i’m forever grateful for that! then, you went and decided to write noah porter benson aka amanda’s lil baby that’s not actually her baby, but she loves him like he is. she would throw down so hard for him, i’m forever emotional about it. the thread we have where liv’s in the hospital has me wrecked, but i also love it because there are so many mama!amanda vibes aimed at noah happening that it makes my heart warmer than the sun. then there’s jess and noah, and good freakin’ lord. THEY’RE SO CUTE I CAN BARELY STAND IT. they are freakin’ in love with each other and icb they’re gonna get married and have a family and liv and amanda are gonna be grandparents to the same kids. listen, both me, amanda, and jesse’s lives wouldn’t be the same without you and your muses in them. you are such a talented writer, and i will forever tell you that whenever you need reminding. thunder, lightning. peaches and honey always!!
@southbronxabogado / adrien ! wow wow wow wow wow. first of all, you are actually rafael barba. i’m convinced. every single thread is so accurate and it brings me so much joy to watch you bring him to life and give him the treatment he deserves. now, the relationship we’ve developed between amanda and rafael is truly one of my favorites. i went from oh yeah they’d be cute, to holy fucking shit they’re perfect in 0.000001 seconds after we first started plotting them. the dynamic they have is so genuine, and the way he treats her just makes my heart so happy. i’ve adored every thread we’ve ever started, from amanda thinking she freakin’ broke the toaster to the throwback thread of him taking her to that fancy benefit. now last but definitely not least, can i just say how wonderful you are ooc? like, i know i can jump into your im’s and start screaming at you enthusiastically in all caps about our idiots without worry. plotting and writing with you has been such a pleasure, and i absolutely adore you. truly. i can’t wait for all the million other things i’m sure we’ll do.
@thingsmissed / jennifer ! ok, so i haven’t really gotten much of a chance to write amanda or jesse with any of your muses, but i absolutely love having you on my dash and talking to you ooc! you put so much effort into all your muses, and it’s absolutely inspiring. you are without a doubt one of the sweetest people with one of the most genuinely kind, caring, and giving hearts that i’ve had the pleasure of meeting on here. you are always so much fun to talk to ooc, and i can always feel your kindness exuding through the screen. you are a very talented writer and i hope you never doubt that!!

Author Spotlight: GingerLocks
Tumblr media
Turn about is fair play, and this week’s Spotlight falls on last week’s recommender: GingerLocks aka @foreverdrunkatheart.
Recommended by @agentpeggiecarter, she says:
I’d like to mention the fantastic GingerLocks (on here she’s foreverdrunkatheart). She’s a smart, dedicated and hardworking artist/writer/human being. She honestly has it all. Her stories are engaging, fun and clever, my personal favorite being Operation: Plums and Entirely Too Early for this Much Glitter. Bucky and Darcy are always funny, honest and well rounded characters that carry you through her stories with ease, at the core of her writing are clever plots, smart twists and incredibly witty dialogue! I have all the emotions all the time when I read GingerLocks’ stories! And I think everyone should enjoy them a tonne more! Give her all the love pls!
The man smiled and started scooping, talking broken english to her, but from what she could piece together he thought she was Swedish because she ordered the black ice cream. Apparently salty liquorice was a popular choice among the Scandinavian tourists, and judging by the pale people here, there were a lot of them. “Here,” she handed the monstrosity of a cone over to Bucky, plopping down on the towel next to him. “Thank you.” They sat in silence, licking their ice creams, Darcy tried not to stare as some of the black ice cream melted over Bucky’s fingers and he stuck said fingers in his mouth to lick it off. Fuck that. He’s too hot to be legal. He met her eyes and raised an eyebrow, having caught her staring at his lips for a little too long. She cleared her throat, almost choking on her own spit, “any plans for tonight?” -Operation: Plums, Chapter 6
&
“So, basically, the extremeness of life and death has been taken away, and the kids all walk around to the other classrooms and the nursing homes instead of the catacombs. And they hand out the Lucia-buns to everyone there while they sing the Lucia-song and I voluntarily stress myself out with taking care of twenty kids who all carry burning candles.” “Ok…” “Hey, don’t be mister negative! When I first saw this thing, and I wasn’t in charge, it was beautiful! The buns and the candles and the boys wearing dresses and all the glitter!” He glanced at her quickly, he was driving in the middle of winter after all, and could see that little smile she had when she was feeling almost nostalgic. And there were not a lot of things she had to feel nostalgic about. The moment he saw that smile, he decided that Lucia was a very important day. No matter how silly it sounded, he would indulge her in every aspect of it, as long as she fell asleep at night with that smile on her lips. - Entirely too early for this much Glitter
&
“Oh golly, when these kids were first years, it took me twice as long to get them out the door. And I even had a tutor help me!”
“You say the cutest things when you have to censor your language.”
“Fudge you.” - Entirely too early for this much Glitter
Here’s what she had to say:
01. What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?
I don’t know how it started. I think I fell in love with Darcy as a character, the way she was portrayed as the comic relief, BUT in a caring AND a nonsexual way. We’ve all seen the post abt how she’s one of the few sidekick characters to be portrayed with the respect that male sidekicks get and how awesome it was to see it in a female. Well that and my huge crush on Kat Dennings made me fall for this funny but loving and protective character. Then there was Bucky… Bucky, Bucky, Bucky. Where to start? I love him, from his ladies man younger years, to the amazing “till the end of the line” BFF and soldier, to the “broken-minded” assassin. I love him, I want to cuddle him up in blankets and give him chocolates and let him watch disney films, bc he deserves that! And I think Darcy will be the type of person to give it to him. She is also so incredibly ordinary compared to the superhumans and emotionally screwed heroes and I think they contrast nice (bubbly/silent and Loud/grumpy are my tropes!) and I think he will really give his whole self to his love and be completely “till the end of the line” with them, and I think they would both build each other up and accept each other as they are! <3
02. How did you first encounter the pairing?
Darcy and Bucky love seperately, then I fell for Shieldshock and Darcylanders were so open and inviting and I had just been in a really small and often attacked fandom and it was really toxic there so I jumped ship into your open arms! And then Shieldshock became Wintershieldshock and I was like “hang on, I really love the Darcy/Bucky thing going on, it’s more intense and kinda more varied? I guess. I think the Ot3 fics really made me think of the juxtapositions of the pairings and I fell hard and fast for both.
03. Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons? Are there any particular fic tropes you like concerning the pairing?
I really like the “Darcy helps Bucky with pop culture” It’s sweet and I love when its portrayed in a way that has Darcy sharing her geekyness with the Nerd!Bucky. I also lovelovelove friendships and their relationships to others, I love how people have them work as a couple in a bigger setting. Just some boring domesticity for him (finally!) and a little more excitement in their day-to-day life for her. I got completely off track there…
I also love all the friends to lovers and FriendsWithBenefits turned more and a little bit of pining involves is also good, so all those overused tropes (c’mon guys, the reason it’s overused is bc it never fails to be amzaing!)
As for headcanons one of mine is, well, the same as MLChick said last week, the reading together. Just… being able to come together and be in the moment. Honestly, as a chatterbox myself I really appreciate the people I can both talk to and be silent with :)
Also, this:
http://foreverdrunkatheart.tumblr.com/post/128779875773/look-at-these-two-dorks-i-need-to-stop-based-on
04. Do you associate any particular songs with Wintershock? If so, which one?
Only, like, half my iTunes library… I mean it completely depends on what kind of fic I’m reading. For some reason I love a lot of Norwegian songs for them… I based a whole fic (Oh Please Honey (just tell me you want me)) on the Norwegian song “Aldri” by Razika, which is basically a more melancholy version of “Never getting back together” by TayTay Swifty, and concludes with ‘pick yourself up and find another boy’ and I had Bucky be the other boy and now I can never listen to the Aldri song without thinking about Wintershock.
05. What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you?
*Link to last week’s author rec here ;) and then I also recced another author for later ;) ;)* But honestly though, MarvelLitChick’s series, and the Wintershock series by Lara @agentpeggiecarter and I also love the Run verse, but everybody knows the run verse so there is no point reccing that when probably everybody else has (if not then go read that at once!) and, well, currently I am reading a hilarious fic called “mission proposal: Date Darcy Lewis” by Amarantex. That and the Pizza verse by Pollydoodles never fail to light up my day.
06. What kind of Wintershock story would you love to read that hasn’t been written yet by you or others?
I have one… NAY 2, stories that are burning a hole in my mind. I have the main ideas written on a post it and hidden in a notebook, bc I am really torn, like on one hand, I want to write it myself… and on the other hand I wanna read it without writing the 20-50k needed to make it work and do it properly… Idk, I am still sitting on them, I don’t wanna let go just yet, but at the same time I am writing my bachelor this spring and I have 20-50k other things I have to do. Deadlines and projects riding my ass… Then again, apart from those two ideas (that may or may not be leaked in the future) I think the fandom is vastly creative and really cashes in on the crackship factor and all the possibilities that entails, giving us a wide variety of fics that covers most of the tropes I can dream of! Great on you!!
07. Out of the Wintershock stories you’ve written, which is your favourite, and why?
Oh, idk, I really love Operation: Plums, and Please Honey (tell me u want me), but honestly, I really love my oneshot “Therapy Cooking” a whole damn lot. It was the 3rd idea on that post it, and I just sat down and wrote it. I know next to nothing about psychology and mental health and PTSD so I spent a lot of time researching it and I was like “wait, is therapy cooking a thing?” bc I am still unsure, but it should be! Therapy where you are taught practical life skills and they make sure you get at least one decent meal and you get to focus on other things than just talking. Imagine how easy it would be for people in group therapy to connect and help each other if they were working together on a lasagna!
So I was entertaining the idea for a long time, on the post it, and I really wanted Darcy to be the “normal one” who had something deeper, and for Bucky to come out of his shell and find himself. I wanted them to heal apart AND THEN together. Independence for the characters is always important, and in this fic I got some Sam Wilson magic, and Supportive Steve, and a bubby Darcy who got the one armed Bucky to come out of his shell and reclaim the flirty aspects of 1940’s Bucky.  And the way he goes from “I don’t know who I am now” to having a personality is great :)
“Look at these lemons, James!” Darcy marveled at a crate of lemons, already stuffing handfuls into a bag. Bucky looked up from the plums he was perusing, remembering his last day in Bucharest and trying to shake the lingering paranoia.
“I’m buying the whole crate, and I’m going to bring some to class and the teacher is going to teach me how to make those amazing lemon tarts. You know, the tiny ones in the bakeries with the meringue on top.”
Bucky smiles at her enthusiasm and shakes off his paranoia, reaching out for a bag and handing it over to Darcy’s waiting hand so she can hold it open as he loads it with plums.
“You just wanna use the the cooking torch,” he accuses.
“Well duh,” she rolls her eyes and elbows him in the ribs, “but lemon tarts are good without the meringue too…”
Bucky ends up carrying the crate of lemons on his hip, giving Darcy his wallet and trusting her to pick the best produce on his shopping list.
08. Quote a favourite extract from one of your stories. What is it that you like about it?
(oh, this was where I was supposed to use a quote. Oh well.)
She then reached over and grabbed his right hand, licking between his thumb and knuckle before she shook salt on it and gave it back, enjoying his bewildered look as she did it to her own hand.
“Now, lick the salt, drink the shot then bite the lime.” She smiled, and did just that. When she was done she shivered from the burn of the alcohol and raised her eyebrow at Bucky, who was still standing there with the lime wedge and shot in his hands.
She raised her other eyebrow in challenge and he narrowed his eyes at her, licking, shotting and biting.
“That wasn't so bad was it,” she beamed at him. He made a vague gesture of displeasure and she laughed. “No worries, Bucky-Buck, by the end of the night you’ll be doing body shots” she winked and handed him the Jaegermeister. He sent her a quizzical look and accepted the shot, taking the second one while she drank some water.
She looked over the dance floor next to them trying to find an example of exactly how to dance and turned back to point out the guy in a blue plaid that was doing this really cool dance with a girl who looked like she was in over her head with her sky high heels. She mentally thanked herself for her own sensible shoe choice as he spun his partner and she nearly lost her balance.
“That guy in-” she caught sight of Bucky’s phone screen before he tucked it away, she glanced up at his face and a slow smirk spread over her face. “Where you just googling body shots?”
Bucky didn’t answer, she was pretty sure he grunted, maybe even flushed a little, but the music was too loud for her to hear and the flashing lights were of no help what so ever.
She kept grinning at him until he leaned forwards, closer than last time, “you offering?”  with that stupid half smirk of his.
She blinked, but didn’t answer. Trying to determine whether he was flirting, just being Bucky, or genuinely wanted to experience this body-shot (and how A-Okay she was with that). In the end he rolled his eyes nodding towards the dance floor with his eyebrows raised.
From chapter 3 of Please Honey. I really enjoyed writing this. The two of them having fun, being together, (and this is the friends-to-lovers trope that I love so much) and I love adding humor to my plots, and as the rest of this story is big on feelings and slight angst and is also all about being ready for a commitment and doing all the stuff you gotta do to make it fair on your SO. So yeah. Bucky awkwardly googling body shots and him imagining lying Darcy out on the bar so he can do the thing is both hot and kinda dorky. ;)
We hope you’ll show her some love!

Looking for us. Amid so many feelings, Lara discovers in herself and her friends that we all have secrets and personalities that propel us to good and bad ways. A conflict between morals, religion, challenges of the new century and desires. Five minutes Suddenly I found myself there, in the middle of loud music, trying hand to let Dyana smile and amidst a laugh says something I can't hear, I force my attention amid stumbling and difficulties to balance in high heels, it seems that talks about God understanding that it will be my only presentation.
Her voice is beautiful, a pity that she doesn't even want to dedicate herself to the dances, says Dyana, all flustered, stopping the rush when she enters a dressing room.
- Listen friend, breathe, she said. Everything will be ok, ok! Relax, just do what you always do in church, go up, pick up the microphone, close your eyes and sing, it's just a song, God won't care, oh and try to hide that scared face, smile... said Dyana already leaving and shouting in the corridor, where when opening the door the noise of electronic music again makes me want to cover my ears.
And here I am, heart pounding, that feeling of divine rejection, where I was with my head when I let Dyana choose this skirt so short, oh if my mother saw me now, she would fall on her knees and without a doubt would scream that I am condemned to hell and that red lipstick, I never use that color, I look like a girl in life ... while I drown in my feelings of disapproval, I hear a knock on the door and call my name.
- Lara, can I come in?
- Ah, thank God for a known voice.
- Where were you Will?
When opening the door:
- Sorry, I thought you were my friend Will, can I help you?
- I'm you crazy.
- Will? I said, so low that I almost drown in my prejudice, with no time to hide my bewilderment at what, or who was before my eyes!
- Larinha your beautiful, for go, this is making me embarrassed, let me help you look more beautiful, if that is possible, those blunt hair, oh how God gives wings to those who don't know how to fly, if it were me owner of that belt, and those beautiful eyes, come on, come on, sit down babe, today you will shine!
And there, still trembling, I closed the door and thank God the hellish noise subsided, smiling embarrassingly, trying to maintain the usual mood, but difficult to hide it, when I see this image in front of me.
While Will, playing and singing, shouting that I will rock, I look trying not to show disgust, after all he is a very beautiful transvestite, he looks just like he was born a woman, how beautiful his face was in the midst of those long reddish curls, and that giant mouth, to think that I already kissed him, my God!
God in heaven, how far is a man looking for happiness that can only be found in Christ, how can he be a great father, I remember Will helping Dyana in college, another crazy person, how he can torment an entire room by taking his children attending classes, Will exchanged frauds, good times, laughs.
- So answer, what color?
- How, I'm sorry I didn't understand, I said, returning from my thoughts.
- Cat, what color of eyeshadow can I put in your beautiful eyes?
- Anyone, I mean a very light pink ...
-Oh, here you come, not today, huh, you won't be playing today, said Will.
- Will, who knows. He said in a low, embarrassed voice, seeming unable to hide the whirlwind of thoughts.
Despite having already been warned by Dyana, I had not yet seen him dressed as a woman, and how can he change so much physically? Your face, how you can balance yourself on that platform, and your voice, the only thing I see from you Will, are your eyes hidden behind those huge lashes, my God, the most beautiful freak, I really feel like kissing you, it can't be, I'm going crazy, one abyss calls the other, I shouldn't be here.
- Hey girl, calm down, said Will, let me be okay, and stop calling me that, here I am Katerina uhhhh
And we all laughed, as if the biggest joke was being told.
- Look beautiful, when Dyana told me that she managed to convince you to come and sing a song, did I discredited it.
- Lara? our Larinha? not!
- I confess there was even a bet, laughs ... only if she jumps out the window, I said to Dyana ... laughs.
- You didn't jump out the window to escape your mother, did you? Kkkkk
- Yes, I mean, no, laughs
- I had to lie, I said I was going to sleep at a friend's house, and you know, right, my mom wouldn't understand.
Laughter and laughter.
Before I managed to organize my ideas, already suppressing my disapproval of being there, I was deafened by electronic music when Dyana opens the door to the dressing room and shouts:
- Five minutes...
- Today you will shine Lara Davis.
- Will, help me, I won't make it, he said, almost without a voice, looking for something to lean against.
- Stop it, Will shouted, you need that money remember? After all, that's what you came for, Dyana, she told me it's a thousand dollars for you to go up on that stage and sing just one song, which I think is a waste, after all your voice is beautiful and go, you sing every Sunday, there's no secret for you, Dyana told me that if she wanted to, she would make lots of money.
- If I could go up in your place, kkkk, but the grace was given to you cat, then for freshness. Sorry for the intrusion but why do you need that money? Why didn't you ask me? Said Will, no longer so enthusiastic.
- If you really want my opinion Lara, looked down and continued, this place is not for you!
Silence.
There, I thought screaming inside me, I knew I shouldn't be here.
- I need the money to enter the apartment where I live, Will.
- You know, you know!
- It's the usual, there is never any money left to invest in me, I don't even know where I've been in the last ten years, I'm studying, I know, but that's not what I mean, I need to take care of myself, you know?
- No. Will said.
- I don't undertand, but anyway, now there's no time, you need to go up there and sing. Come on, come on, there's no more time.
As we were going through the dark corridor, with arrows of light, just enough not to trip over our own legs, I said to myself, don't stop, breathe, it's just a song, after all God won't care, you've sung so many sometimes, it won't go crazy now, hold the crying, breathe, come on, it's a thousand dollars, five minutes, what can go wrong?
We stopped.
In front of us was a 3-step ladder, up there Dyana looking beautiful, making her mess with the crowd, I can't believe she referred to me as the little church that comes to give us a little of the evil that is inside me, this is not me, oh she pays me, I should go!
- Lara, Lara, Lara ... screams!
- Will help me.
- Go up, walk, uhuuu beautiful, cat, you will rock! Screamed Will or Katerina.
I don't feel it, my legs, I'm going to trip over these heels, that skirt will just tear, who made these steps so narrow and high, then God help me and I promise never to put my feet here again, don't kill me, please don't fulmine me.
- Hi guys, I said on impulse, amid so much despair.
- Well, yes, ah, you can turn off the sound please.
- uhhhhhh, laughs, people screamed.
In a second in which I could observe, I saw young people, gay couples, transvestites, some were so drunk that they didn't even stop dancing, although the music had a pause to start mine.
I don't know how I thought I could do that, what a shame, what my pastors would say, and if there is someone I know, good in that case I will be sinning like me, but I sing in the praise of the church, oh my God, help me! I thought while changing the hand microphone to wipe them from the sweat that ran between my fingers, but this short skirt does not help, if Jesus returns now I am lost for all eternity, there will be no forgiveness for me, for, for, calm is just a music...
Introduction of music playing ...
- "I see you making mistakes and this is not a sin
Except when it makes someone else bleed
I see you dreaming and it scares you
Lost in a world that cannot be entered
You're leaving my life
And it looks like it will take
If you don't know how to get back, at least send news
Do you think I'm crazy
But everything will fall into place
I'm enjoying every second
Before this becomes a tragedy
And there's no use even looking for me
In other timbres, other laughs
I was here all the time
Only you didn't see
And there's no use even looking for me
In other timbres, other laughs
I was here all the time
Only you didn't see
You're always coming and going, all right
This time I already wore my armor
And even if nothing works
I'll be standing, chin up
Then you see me red and think it's funny
But I wouldn't look good on your bookshelf
I'm enjoying every second
Before this becomes a tragedy
And there's no use even looking for me
In other timbres and other laughs
I was here all the time
Only you didn't see
And there's no use even looking for me
In other timbres, other laughs
I was here all the time
Only you didn't see
Just for today I don't want to see you anymore
Just for today I will not take my dose of you
I'm tired of crying wounds that won't close
Don't heal (no)
And that abstinence an hour will pass."
- Thank's guys. Smile tight between teeth.
Forgive me, God, forgive me, I thought as I pressed the microphone to my chest and let's face it, that letter, why did I choose this damn song?
- uhuuu, devastated friend. Dyana came to the stage shaking the crowd, trying to excite me to stay on stage, already disapproving with my look of refusal and steps back towards the stairs.
I went down the stairs and even before I reached the floor I already had one of my sandals in my hands, I bent down to take the other off, when I saw Will, Katerina, weeping towards me in an attempt to help me pull the other pair that looked more like have stuck to my feet.
I went barefoot down the hall towards the dressing room, but if I had known I wouldn't have taken off my sandals, since it was full of liquid, which by God, I hope to be drunk, it must be beer, after all they stick to my feet, oh how disgusting, if it is urine or vomit, ahhh that corridor looked more like a path of germs and microbes that in my thoughts had already entered my feet and were already part of my bloodstream!
We closed the door, whew, I survived, I could still feel my heart beat so hard that the walk back almost overcame the despair of having sung that song, like a song, oh I don't even remember what I sang anymore.
- You were beautiful cat, shouted Katerina, surprising me with a peck in the mouth and a hug.
- Katerina, Will, I'm sorry, but I need to go home.
- Calm friend, you are at home, here you have everything you need, it was a success, it made me cry ...
- Please, I shouted interrupting your enthusiasm, I want to get out of here. And without realizing it, I was already crying compulsively.
- I shouldn't have come to that place, look at me, that gift was God who gave it to me and I shouldn't have ...
Stopped.
- Can you, who was now going to play a repentant Saint Magdalene? You came because you wanted to, nobody forced you and look, you rocked girl, you were beautiful on that stage, if you were me you would still be there shining.
- If you were me, you would understand .... I lowered my head and looked at my feet, dirty and burning, as if I had stepped on mud with broken glass.
- Look at me, better drink this water, enjoy it tonight, you won't leave, we need to catch up on the gossip, tell me everything, everything that has happened in your life.
- So take off that shit, I said pointing to the wig that didn't look so perfect that face hidden behind so much makeup, ahh why did you do that to you Will? I screamed without thinking of an insane and unexpected outburst.
But it was unexpected to see Katerina who seemed so determined, to disarm herself before my eyes, she lowered her eyes as if she were ashamed, with a stroke of her hand she pulled the wig off making it even more bizarre, because all I saw was a man with a woman's face, a den holding her short black hair, a bright red dress, stood out on her thick legs with a thin black stocking and a huge red platform.
He was there, wig in hand and head down.
- Can I take your makeup off? he said without thinking, trying to catch his breath to stop crying.
"You can, Lara, but I do it for you, because you don't understand, it's so easy to see things," said Will, sitting in jail where he had put on my makeup before.
- You speak as if I were a child, I understand yes, I mean I do not understand that you have become a woman, respect, but I do not understand, I know you, I know that you are not a woman, that you would be, you will be a great father and husband, after all ...
- And can I still be, if I go to church and be like the believers want me to be? Will said holding my hand before I even reached him with the cotton sponge to remove his makeup.
- No, I mean yes, well, you know it complicated things a lot, right, why are you practicing something and not just wishing, after all, when you decided that, you were normal a short time ago!
- ahhhhhh loud laughs, "normal" cat? look at the prejudice huh, don't forget that the abnormal here is you with this mania of wanting to live what people say to you, without really living what you feel.
- And how do you know what I feel? I live what the bible says, not what people tell me.
- Ah for Lara, we will not discuss religion again, I do not want to fight with you.
- Look, good, never mind, I was silent while using a lot of cotton to remove so much makeup...

Suburbia’s new face
Simon Montlake, CS Monitor, June 4, 2017
PEARLAND, TEX.--The sun has already set by the time Quentin Wiltz--oil industry executive and political candidate--approaches the last ranch house in a subdivision of this Houston suburb. A Latino man stands on his front lawn, a hose at his feet. In the fading light, he has the glazed look of someone relieved to be home from work.
Mr. Wiltz, an African-American in gray slacks and a green polo shirt, goes into his spiel: I’m running for mayor and I’d like your support. The homeowner, Efren Lara, says he didn’t know there was an election coming up. Wiltz edges in closer and reminds him when polling stations will be open. “What time can you make it?” he asks, pressing the man to vote. Mr. Lara says he works long hours at an Exxon refinery. Wiltz, who works for a company that makes pipelines, smiles and raises an arm. “Ah! You’re in the downstream and I’m in the upstream,” he says.
“We want to make some changes, OK?” Wiltz adds, talking about what he’d do as mayor. He takes down Lara’s phone number, then waves goodbye.
Two miles west, in a newer subdivision of brick facades and double garages, Dalia Kasseb rings another doorbell, pamphlets in hand. Ms. Kasseb, an Egyptian-born pharmacist, wears a patterned blue headscarf and carries a yellow Coach purse over her shoulder. A middle-aged black woman opens the door; three young kids spill out onto the lawn. “Hi! I’m running for city council to be a voice for all,” Kasseb begins. Then she launches into her political pitch.
Both the candidates and the residents they are wooing symbolize the new face of suburban Texas--and, to a certain extent, the rest of the United States. Once synonymous with middle-class whites, suburbs are now becoming America’s new melting pots. From Atlanta to Sacramento, suburban communities are rapidly diversifying as families of all different racial and ethnic groups move in search of better schools and their version of a white-picket-fence lifestyle.
While diversity has long been written into the code of cities, suburbs are now challenging them as the new source of social and ethnic dynamism. Indeed, between 2000 and 2010, nonwhites accounted for nearly all of the suburban population growth in 78 of the top 100 cities, according to William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution in Washington. Today more Latinos and African-Americans live in suburbs than in urban cores.
“Suburbs are changing very rapidly in terms of their racial and ethnic composition--and their affluence,” says Daniel Lichter, director of the Institute for the Social Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
Like many cities, Houston remains divided by race and ethnicity, and by wealth and poverty. But its middle-income suburbs are rapidly becoming a kaleidoscope in which no majority exists, a sign of where much of America is headed. (Texas, like California, is a majority-minority state.)
Nowhere is the transformation more evident than in Pearland, a dumbbell-shaped suburb on Houston’s southern edge. Its diversification is largely a result of the inexorable sprawl of this city, where residents keep moving farther out in search of lower-density living. Houston’s nine-county metropolitan area is larger than Massachusetts.
In 2000, Pearland had a population of 37,600. Today, it is the country’s eighth fastest-growing city, with 120,000 people. Along with the growth has come a reversal from a majority-white community to one where newcomers look more like Wiltz and Kasseb than the incumbents they are challenging.
Yet living in the same subdivision doesn’t necessarily mean living together. For old-timers in Pearland who remember a slower pace of life, the diversity and influx of newcomers sometimes feels like an intrusion. A gap has already opened up between the younger, multicultural new arrivals and the mostly white homeowners near the city’s old center.
Underlying the changing sociology--and politics--of America’s suburbs looms a fundamental question: Does their diversification represent a new kind of integration, or just a bunch of diverse groups coexisting side by side in their own enclaves--a tossed salad rather than a melting pot?
“We’re not threatened by each other,” says Stephen Klineberg, a sociologist at Rice University in Houston, of the area’s new diversity. “But we also don’t get to know each other.”
Pears are no longer farmed in Pearland, but horses and cattle still graze behind the housing subdivisions named for the ranches they replaced. The town was founded in 1892 by a Polish aristocrat who bought 2,560 acres of land near a railroad junction. Pearland slowly filled up with farming families, built schools and roads, and diversified into growing figs and rice. Oil derricks bobbed nearby. By 1960, a year after its incorporation, it had 1,497 residents.
Mayor Tom Reid, a World War II Navy pilot, moved to Pearland in 1965. He wanted to be closer to his work as project manager at the Johnson Space Center, 12 miles down what was then a country road. “I could go to work and my wife would say, ‘How was the drive?’ I’d say, ‘I saw a couple of guys and we waved to each other,’ “ he says.
The proximity to the Space Center attracted other aerospace families, and Pearland began to build better roads and sewer lines, anticipating future growth. Then in the 1990s, as Houston’s oil economy revved up, Pearland’s population doubled. The expansion of State Highway 288, a six-lane road to Houston, opened up the community to commuters, and new housing projects spread across the landscape.
Part of Pearland’s growth, like that of many suburbs, is rooted in the perennial movement of people out of city cores. For all the hype of an urban renaissance, Americans continue to migrate to the low-density suburbs of car-dependent urban areas. Rich and childless whites cling to city centers, as do many new immigrants. But young families move outward where housing is cheaper and schools are often better.
As they do, they bring more diversity to suburbia, since nonwhite minorities now make up 44 percent of Americans ages 18 to 34. For African-Americans, a suburban home is a choice that their parents and grandparents were frequently denied. For immigrant families from Asia, spacious suburbs are among the reasons they moved to the US.
Not all suburbs are seeing racial mixing--or embracing the trend. Demographers point to a new form of “white flight” as older white families leave behind multicultural cities and suburbs for new exurbs, particularly in areas between the two coasts. “You can have increasing diversity and increasing segregation at the same time,” says Richard Wright, a geographer at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
From 1990 to 2010, Pearland went from being one of Houston’s most homogeneous suburbs to its second most diverse, a city where whites are outnumbered by Latinos, African-Americans, Asians, and other minorities. As many as 75 languages are now spoken in local schools.
“It’s a very dynamic and diverse place,” says Clay Pearson, the city manager, who moved here from Michigan in 2014. “At some level, you realize that’s part of the now and the future. For myself and a lot of people I’ve talked to, that’s an attraction.”
Mayor Reid is now 91. His office at City Hall, near the old center, faces west toward the newer subdivisions, past a tangle of traffic. Framed pictures from NASA space missions line his wall. In the corner stands a gleaming chrome shovel, a reminder that his job as mayor--a near-unbroken run since 1978--is largely ceremonial; Mr. Pearson is the chief executive. Being mayor is also a part-time job, though Reid, who has crisp white hair, blue eyes, and jug ears, says he usually puts in a full workweek, even while he’s running for reelection.
“I’m retired and I’m doing something I love,” he says, switching into campaign mode. “My job is building a city, and I’m not through yet.”
As the demographics of many suburbs change, their politics are shifting, too--though often more slowly and subtly. Many suburban communities, including Pearland, are seeing more diverse slates of candidates run for local offices and new issues surface.
Yet traditional voting patterns endure. It’s often easier to target and win over diligent retirement-age voters than it is to woo new families with frenetic schedules. That’s why, on a midweek evening, Wiltz and Kasseb join other candidates who sit behind four trestle tables in a carpeted events room at a residential clubhouse for “active adults.” A scattering of older men and women, all white, fill three rows of seats. At the front sits Wiltz’s wife, Monique, and his eldest son. Kasseb’s husband sits facing her.
The rest of the lineup--Reid and eight candidates for council seats--are white. Only one of them is a woman.
Wiltz, dressed in a jacket and striped tie, sits next to Reid, who is all smiles as they shake hands. It’s the first meeting between the two since Wiltz told the mayor in January that he was running against him, after two unsuccessful bids for city council. When Wiltz gets to his feet, after Reid’s opening remarks, he holds up a finger and turns to the moderator.
“I want to clarify one thing,” he says. “Mayor Reid is not an opponent, he’s a friend.” (Reid, cast as Caesar, stares at his Brutus, impassively.)
Wiltz, who is in his mid-30s, grew up in Louisiana and attended a historically black college in Houston. He tells the forum that after he moved to Pearland in 2007, Reid wrote a recommendation letter for him to join the parks board. “And that’s where my career in service leadership started,” he says.
Then he pivots to his campaign themes: improving transportation, creating jobs, listening to residents. “I just want to provide new ideas and leadership for where we want to be and the city we want to become,” he says. “Thank you.”
Other candidates talk about their careers, their families, their ties to Pearland. What passes for policy debate is the stuff of municipal governance, from traffic snarls to flood drainage. Kasseb talks about “smart growth” and people staying healthy and having more parks.
Only one candidate, Jude Smith, a lawyer running for a council seat, speaks directly about the demographic changes. He moved to Houston three years ago with his wife, a doctor, who is Indian. “We looked around Pearland and saw people of every color from almost every country in the world,” he says. “That’s what I want to be a part of.”
After the speeches, a middle-aged woman stands up and identifies herself as a resident on the newer west side. “I see two cities here,” she says. “And because you represent the city, how are you going to draw these two parts together that have nothing to do with each other right now?”
Reid then launches into an explanation of how he solves problems by listening to all sides. “Some people have a fixed mind on a particular issue and don’t want to consider any other alternative,” he says.
Wiltz is back on his feet. “I like to walk,” he says, pacing toward the front row. He pauses.
The divide is real, he tells the woman, noting that he lives in what he prefers to call “the historic district.” What’s missing now is engagement and new leadership. He proposes holding quarterly town hall meetings around town. “We have to be more proactive,” he says.
Nobody mentions race or ethnicity, and the discussion reverts to traffic management. Later, over pizza, Wiltz explains he has learned not to speak bluntly about social divisions lest he offend. “I’m more coded now,” he says. Growing up in St. Martinville, La., a town of 6,000 residents, he understands that people get comfortable with the way things are and unnerved by rapid change.
Should Wiltz be elected mayor, one of his tasks will be to bring together a rapidly changing city with few unifying forces. Pearland is solidly middle-class: A starter house costs $140,000, and median household income is $97,000, much higher than in Houston. But newcomers rushing to downtown jobs barely brush shoulders with the mostly white retirees who tee off on the golf course weekday mornings or the older families that work and play near home.
Shopping habits reinforce a sense of division. Pearland has three Wal-Marts spaced several miles apart; residents refer to the one on the east side as “white Wal-mart” because of who shops there--and who doesn’t.
Not far from the outskirts of Pearland stands the Sri Meenakshi Temple, its cream walls and wedding-cake lintels of Hindu gods rising above the flatlands. On weekends, thousands of Indian families come to pray at its shrines. Weddings take place in a modern building on the 26-acre site that also has a library, basketball court, and walking track.
The place was much more modest in 1978 when Vatsa Kumar emigrated from Bangalore, India: An 8-by-8-foot temple stood on the site, next to a trailer home where a single priest lived. Local ranchers were happy to sell plots to Indians in Houston who wanted a place to worship on weekends. “Land was cheap 40 years ago. We could get as much as we wanted,” says Mr. Kumar.
By 1982, the imposing temple that still stands today had been built, but it served a small Indian community living in the Houston area. Now the population has caught up with the temple’s ambition. Some 125,000 Indians live in Greater Houston, many in suburbs like Pearland.
“We’re still growing,” says Kumar, a retired nuclear engineer who helps run the temple. “A lot of Indian families have moved into this area.”
One of them is Rushi Patel. In 1985, when he was 9, his family immigrated to a small town in South Carolina where his father ran a motel. They were the only Indians in a segregated community, identified as neither black nor white. “What’s your American name?” the children asked him at school.
Two years later, the family moved to Darlington, S.C. The town was bigger, had a NASCAR course, and a handful of other Indian families. Mr. Patel studied accounting in college, then moved to Houston.
Together with his sister and brother-in-law, he owns a property development company that has two hotels in Pearland. On a recent morning, he sat in the lobby of the Hampton Inn, taking calls from staff at a new hotel going up near a petrochemical plant on the coast. A yard sign for Reid stood out front (“He’s a gentleman,” says Patel.)
In 2006, Patel bought a house on Pearland’s west side where he lives with his wife, an accountant who commutes to her job in Houston, and their two daughters. His sister lives nearby. His neighbors are a microcosm of the city’s growing diversity: a black-white couple with kids, a family of Middle Eastern descent, a white-Asian family, a black couple.
John Logan, a demographer at Brown University in Providence, R.I., says most metro areas now have what he calls “global neighborhoods” where no group has an absolute majority. Nearly all began as mostly white enclaves that integrated over time, he says. He believes that nonwhite immigrants who move into majority-white cities and suburbs act as a buffer that, over time, allows African-Americans to follow suit. And, given the vexed history of racial segregation and white flight, this immigrant-lined path could prove more stable than the unilateral movement of blacks.
“Global neighborhoods are made possible by immigration,” he says. “Hispanics and Asians [are] paving the way for integration of African-Americans.”
Immigration has certainly changed Houston’s demographics. In 1990, non-Hispanic whites were in the majority here (54 percent). By 2010, that share had dropped to one-third. Now 1 in 4 residents is foreign-born, compared with 1 in 7 nationally.
But that doesn’t mean that the old color lines--black and white, Latino and white--have been erased. As in many cities, patterns of segregation continue to shape where people live. Even in the suburbs, what looks like a mixed community from afar can turn out to be, on closer inspection, a balkanized spectrum of strangers occupying the same subdivisions.
Patel admits that busy commuting families in Pearland are often cocooned from their community, making it hard to build bridges. “They live next to each other. But they don’t know how to talk to each other,” he says. He smiles wryly. “I don’t know why I’m saying ‘they.’ “
Ask Reid, the mayor, and he’ll tell you that it simply takes time for people to settle into a new community--especially when the town is growing as fast as Pearland. When he first moved here, he still went to his doctor and dentist in Houston, and attended church there. Gradually he found a local doctor, dentist, and Presbyterian church.
“It takes a while before you become part of a community,” he says. “We’re beginning to assimilate.”
On May 6, Wiltz finished narrowly behind Reid in the mayor’s race (a third candidate took 5 percent). Kasseb polled first in her six-way race for a council seat. But no candidate in these races received more than 50 percent of the votes cast. So runoff elections for both positions will be held June 10.
Should Wiltz defeat Reid, he won’t quit his job in Houston. Yet he says that Pearland eventually needs a full-time mayor, not a figurehead, if it’s to manage its rapid growth and make sure that everyone feels represented at city hall.
“You can master-plan a neighborhood. But you can’t master-plan a community,” he says.
